How Copying "animated planeswalkers" works?

Asked by pedroedmarcos 1 year ago

Hey there,

So, I'm building a deck with Jared Carthalion as the commander and Luxior, Giada's Gift in the 99. When equiped on my commander, he will be a creature and retains the pw abilities. If I copy Jared with something like Irenicus's Vile Duplication will the copy keep the pw abilities as well? And also, will the copy die, since it doesn't have power and toughness?

The copy will be an non-legendary Jared Carthalion planeswalker (not a creature) and will enter the battlefield with the appropriate number of starting loyalty counters. The effect of Luxior, Giada's Gift on the original Jared won't be copied.

The basic explanation is that copy effects just copy what's written on the original, plus the results of any other copy effects applying to the original (e.g. copying a Clone pretending to be Bear Cub will make another Bear Cub). There are a few more nuances in the full explanation but they aren't relevant to the example here.
