And remember that a spell is only a spell when it is on the stack. So combat damage will not cause this ability to happen, even though a creature was cast as a spell at one point. Just thought I'd point that out.

You are correct. An opponent is any player who is not on your team (if you have a team).
A creature is not an opponent even though it may be controlled by one. Therefore, Hostility 's ability will not prevent damage to your opponent's creatures, only to their controllers.
