From the Vault: Legality
Asked by Hatterj 12 years ago
If I were to buy a "From the Vault "box, would any of those cards be Standard legal?

The special series products - Premium Deck Series, Duel Decks, summer multiplayer releases, etc - don't affect card legality. They have to be legal in the format normally in order to be played, in which case that specific card is fine to play.

Only the sets and blocks released during the normal course of the year are legal in Standard. Tertiary products like Duel Decks, From the Vault boxes, and Modern Masters are not included in this list, so they aren't Standard-legal. A card from these tertiary products is only Standard-legal if a printing of that card exists in the blocks or core sets currently legal in Standard.
When in doubt, always consult the WotC documents for format rules and legalities. Said documents can be accessed from this page.

Yeah. If you aren't sure if a card is legal in Standard or not, just go to the Gatherer (Wizards's official card database), search for the card in question, and under "Legality", it will tell you.

Only if any of the cards have been printed in any of the sets that are in Standard currently. The FTV sets are usually older cards that have been out of print for a while though, so probably not.
