Forbidden Lore Ruling
Asked by Rothmog 11 years ago
I have a question regarding the ruling of Forbidden Lore . My question is if I cast Forbidden Lore on an opponents land, do I retain the right to tap it to give a creature +2/+1 or does that ability become usable only by the land's controller. The way the rules are worded leave me to believe that since there is a 0 activation cost, and I am the caster of the enchantment, that I can tap an opponents land against their will. I understand that they can still tap the land for mana to prevent the +2/+1, but I use in conjunction with cards such as Pooling Venom , Psychic Venom and Ley Druid to force enchanted land to tap. I have heard that the controller of the land rather than the controller of the enchantment gets to use the ability, but it is worded differently from other cards of the same set such as Earthlore or Hot Springs . Would I be able to enchant an opponents land with both Pooling Venom and Forbidden Lore to force the land to tap and damage the opponent?

The updated wording from Oracle is :
Enchanted land has "Tap: Target creature gets +2/+1 until end of turn."
It gives the land an ability, and you can only activate abilities of permanents you control unless it says otherwise.
