Firestorm and legal targets...

Asked by yant0028 8 years ago

Hello, this will probably be an easy question for rules gurus, but I'm having a bit of trouble with this one.

Board: I have Swans of Bryn Argoll in play and I draw a ton of cards off it thanks to Chain of Plasma. I'm playing against 3 other opponents and there are a total of 7 creatures in play.

Question: Can I cast Firestorm, discarding 10 cards, targeting the 7 creatures + my 3 opponents, and then respond with a second Firestorm discarding another 10 cards to deal a total of 20 damage to my opponents (and 10 to each creature)?

After the first one resolves, 5 of the original 10 targets will be dead, so does the spell still resolve and deal the next 10 damage to the remaining targets? Or does the spell fizzle because some of the targets are no longer legal?

Thanks!

The first Firestorm would resolve, but the second one would fizzle I believe. It needs all of the cards originally targeted to work.

A spell will only fizzle if all of its targets are illegal. As long as one target remians legal, it will resolve and do as much as it can.
