Eldrazi Token Sacrifice Extra mana?
Asked by lulzologist 13 years ago
If I have a colorless Eldrazi Spawn creature token with "Sacrifice this creature: Add 1 to your mana pool." On the battlefield and activate card:Ashnod's Altar effect and sacrifice one of my tokens will I gain 3 mana or 2?

A payment made as part of the activation cost of an ability or the casting cost of a spell is unique to that spell or ability. You may not pay for the activation/casting of one ability/spell with the cost/payment of a different ability/spell.
Activating card:Ashnod's Altar's ability by sacrificing an Eldrazi Spawn will net you two mana in the end. An Eldrazi Spawn's mana ability is activated only when the Spawn is sacrificed specifically for it.

you sack the token to activate one ability or the other not both
you can not tap 1 land to make 1 mana to pay for 2 sepreat 1 mana spells

Two, because both of the abilities sacrifice a creature as part of the cost for the ability, so you can't sacrifice the same creature to activate both.
