Drain Power and Lands

Asked by UmbrotheUmbreon 11 years ago

If I cast Drain Power , is it possible for my opponent to respond by tapping all their lands and just let the mana float to make it so I get none, or would I get the mana regardless?

Drain Power specifies that you "put all mana from that player's mana pool into yours." The effect doesn't specify that this only counts mana produced during the resolution of Drain Power . In fact, the effect is worded this way to prevent Drain Power from being stopped by preemptive mana creation.

So in short the only way to prevent me from getting the mana is to respond with a spell or ability that requires mana, which Gatherer said was possible.

Right. Your opponent would actually need to spend the mana. Otherwise it remains in his or her mana pool and will be drained.
