Does something with hex proof dissolve spells?

Asked by humanbean 11 years ago

If something like a creature is targeted with a spell, then gains hex proof, does the spell do nothing?

If the spell is controlled by an opponent, then yes, the spell will fizzle and fail to resolve. However, note that hexproof only protects your creatures from your opponent's targeted spells, not yours. You can still target your creatures with hexproof with your spells.

Also giving a targeted permanent hexproof while a spell or ability targeting it is on the stack will only cause the spell to fizzle if that renders -every- target of the spell or ability illegal. A spell targeting two creatures like say, Common Bond will still put counters on the other target if only one gains hexproof or shroud (Assume they derive some benefit from targeting your creature for whatever reason)
