Does graveyard ordering matter?
Asked by Jay 11 years ago
I've noticed some cards, mostly older, will refer to the top or bottom card of a graveyard. However, I frequently see that rearranging your graveyard for clarity/convenience is common. Is it actually allowed? I could see how it's irrelevant now, and you just have to know if it matters in your meta, but legally must you keep your graveyard in order?
It used to matter, but there was a recent (since M10?) rules change that makes graveyard order not matter. There are older cards, yes, that make graveyard order relevant, but I think they get rules errata to deal with the timing of cards going there.

There are specific tournament rules regarding this. Basically, if the cards are available and allowed in the format, like legacy, than you must adhere to strict graveyard order. If they are not, like say standard, then you're free to rearrange.
