Does copying Rith, the Awakener's ability with Strionic Resonator cost 2 or 5 mana?

Asked by Xethreau 9 years ago

Hey everyone,

I am building a Rith EDH deck right now, and Strionic Resonator looks like a great option... but it all depends on when Rith's ability actually hits the stack and is copy-able.

When Rith lands a hit, I can pay 2G to unleash my saprolings. Strionic Resonator's cost is 2 and tap to copy target triggered ability (which I presume means it must be on the stack). If Rith's ability goes onto the stack starting when it hits but BEFORE I pay 2G, that means I would have to pay 3G + 2 mana to actually produce saprolings again. If the mana cost is a part of the cost/trigger of the ability, and the second sentence is what actually goes onto the stack, then it would only cost 2 mana to produce saprolings a second time.

tl;dr: Does re-activating Rith with Strionic Resonator cost 2 or 5 mana total?

Link all cards in your question.
Rith, the Awakener
Strionic Resonator

Triggered abilities require no payments at the time they're out onto the stack. Optional or mandatory payments are paid when the ability resolves. If you copy the ability, you'll have to pay the optional cost a second time.
