Use what you have.

"100.2. To play, each player needs his or her own deck of traditional Magic cards, small items to represent any tokens and counters, and some way to clearly track life totals"

So you can use whatever you want to represent tokens.

If you go to a tournament, it is recommended that you use cards to represent tokens. They do not necessarily need to be the actual tokens, but cards are preferred since you can visually represent being tapped or untapped.

I personally like to have the token cards that I need for any deck just for the aesthetics of it. That's only been one kind so far but It's nice to have.

Sometimes I like to use cards from different games, where the main stats on them match up with the P/T of the creature tokens I'm making. It's just amusing to me to use a Stormtrooper from Star Wars for a 1/1 Human, or a Star Spawn of Cthulhu from Mythos for a 5/5 Dragon.
