Asked by Warbringer 10 years ago

Yup, the trample goes through, but after damage is dealt then both creatures die.

Also, this should be in Q and A

Yes 9 damage will trample over and both creatures will die after damage.

Just remember that if your trampler has deathtouch as well it only has to assign 1 damage before dealing the rest in trample damage.

[For example if you have a 10/10 trample deathtouch and someone blocks with a 100/100 creature you trample over for 9 and both creatures die. ]

And what if the 1/1 is indestructible? Does the damage still go through?

The trample damage would only go through if the creature died. Since it's indestructible, it'll soak up all ten damage, not die, then kill the attacker.

The above answer is incorrect. If a creature would not die, only the damage that would normally be lethal is dealt, after that, the rest tramples over. For example, if a 10/10 is blocked by an indestructible 1/1, 9 damage is dealt and neither creature dies.

Well, that last comment actually isn't quite correct. Even if you block with an indo 1/1, 9 damage will trample over. It's the same as for protection, the damage still goes through after "lethal" is assigned even though that "lethal" won't kill the blocking creature. Trample is one of the most beastiest abilities a creature can have.

Yeah I guess I was thinking of something like a Guard Gomazoa where the damage doesn't matter. My mistake.
