Crumbling Sanctuary vs unpreventable damage

Asked by hyena69 9 years ago

How does unpreventable damage (for instance a kicked Urzas Rage) work with Crumbling Sanctuary (If damage would be dealt to a player, that player exiles that many cards from the top of his or her library instead.). Does the damage get through and the player exiles cards as well? Or what happens?

Please link all cards in your question.
Urza's Rage
Crumbling Sanctuary

Prevention effects are a subset of replacement effects. Crumbling Sanctuary has a replacement effect, but it does not have a prevention effect (prevention effects use the word "prevent" and replace one event with nothing). Therefore, unpreventable damage events can still be replaced.
