Convoke-How Does it Work?

Asked by Owlsong 13 years ago

I have two cards that both have Convoke on them, Conclave Equenaut and Conclave Phalanx, and I'm not 100% sure I know what to do with it. Can anybody explain?

From my understanding For each creature you control that is tapped while casting it is reduced by one when casting Conclave Equenaut and Conclave Phalanx.

Meaning that if you have three creatures tapped when you go to cast Conclave Equenaut he would cost 3 mana to play him and Conclave Phalanx would cost 2 mana to play him.

The easiest way to use there ability's is have your attack phase before you have there casting phase.

That is incorrect. Convoke means that tapping untapped creatures you control may be considered paying part of an additional/alternative cost for a spell.

702.49a Convoke is a static ability that functions while the spell with convoke is on the stack. Convoke means As an additional cost to cast this spell, you may tap any number of untapped creatures you control. Each creature tapped this way reduces the cost to cast this spell by 1 or by one mana of any of that creatures colors. Using the convoke ability follows the rules for paying additional costs in rules 601.2b and 601.2eg.

Example: You cast Guardian of Vitu-Ghazi, a spell with convoke that costs 6GW. You announce that youre going to tap a colorless creature, a red creature, and a green-and-white creature to help pay for it. The colorless creature and the red creature each reduce the spells cost by 1. You choose whether the green-white creature reduces the spells cost by 1, G, or W. Then the creatures become tapped as you pay Guardian of Vitu-Ghazis cost.
