Combo effect on Planeswalkers

Asked by yokhai 13 years ago

I'm currently running a Mycosynth Lattice + March of the Machines combo deck. The combo turns all non-creature permanents into Artifact creatures with p/t equal to its converted mana cost.

How does that effect Planeswalkers with respect to their loyalty counters? I assume Planeswalkers would not be affected by the Lattice's "all permanents are artifacts" ability.

If they were woule they would become a creature with p/t equal to their mana cost counters and remove counters first when taking damage, then become regular creatures with no abilities? Or will they be able to use their + abilities to add loyal counters back?

They become creatures with your combo. You can still use their planeswalker abilities as normal. Whenever they take damage you remove loyalty counters. If they take more damage than they have toughness they die. If they run out of loyalty counters they die.

Basically: They're planeswalkers and creatures.

Planeswalkers will be Artifact Creatures and Planeswalkers, with P/T equal to their converted mana costs and also a certain number of loyalty counters on them.

Since these permanents are still planeswalkers, the following rules still apply:

306.6. Planeswalkers can be attacked. (See rule 508, "Declare Attackers Step.")

306.8. Damage dealt to a planeswalker results in that many loyalty counters being removed from it.

Therefore, they still have all the properties of planeswalkers, but are also creatures. This means they can attack or block, and they have power/toughness equal to their CMC. When they are dealt damage, that many loyalty counters are removed from them. If they are dealt an amount of damage equal to or greater than their CMC, they die as a state-based action. If they have 0 loyalty counters on them, they are put into their owner's graveyard as a state-based action. You may activate one of their loyalty abilities on each of your turns at sorcery-speed. Their loyalty counters and P/T are unrelated.

Sweet. That helps out a ton. This deck will eat Planeswalkers then.
