Casting Karador, Ghost Chieftain as commander
Asked by runelord 11 years ago
lets say I've cast him once previously. Can creatures in my graveyard reduce his inflated cost for re-casting beyond the initial 5?

Not so much an answer, just a comment instead, you're able to cast him from the graveyard with his ability, and he also casts 2 less because he IS a creature in your graveyard, so instead of immediately sending him to the command zone, you can let him go to the graveyard and avoid that +2 colorless mana fee. Or so thats what I think would happen.

Ok so no matter how many times he's been killed as long as enough creatures are in my graveyard i could cast him for BGW all game. Thanks for the help.

@derecksisco i'm pretty sure he has to be on the field to be able to cast a creature card from your graveyard

Incorrect derecksisco. This is from the Gatherer rulings list on Karador:
9/22/2011 If you somehow cast Karador from a graveyard, its cost-reduction ability won't count itself.
9/22/2011 Karador's first ability functions on the stack. Karador's second ability functions only on the battlefield.
It won't work on himself, and he can't reduce his own cost.

Yes. The rule about recasting your commander from the command zone is that it costs an extra 2 colorless mana to cast for every time it has moved from the graveyard or exile to the command zone. So say you had him moved from the graveyard to the command zone twice. His mana cost would be 9BGW. If you had 6 creatures in your graveyard, he would cost only 3BGW to play.
I think this may answer your question, the wording is a bit ambiguous.
