Can someone explain how Bestow works?

Ok, if I were to play Eidolon of Countless Battles only to use its bestow ability would I have to pay the Bestow mana and the cards CMC or just the bestow cost?

Bestow is an alternate cost. You can cast Eidolon of Countless Battles for its mana cost or for its bestow cost (you can only pay the mana cost or one alternate cost).
If you cast it for its mana cost, Eidolon of Countless Battles is a creature spell and will become a creature permanent.
If you cast it for its bestow cost, Eidolon of Countless Battles loses the type "Creature" and the subtype "Spirit" and gains the subtype "Aura." You declare a target for the Aura spell during the casting process. If the target remains legal when Eidolon of Countless Battles resolves, then Eidolon of Countless Battles will enter the battlefield as an Aura attached to that target. If the target is illegal when Eidolon of Countless Battles resolves, Eidolon of Countless Battles enters the battlefield as a creature. If Eidolon of Countless Battles is an Aura attached to a creature and that creature leaves the battlefield, Eidolon of Countless Battles becomes unattached and becomes a creature.
Note that since bestow is an alternate cost, you can't cast a card for its bestow cost if you choose to cast it for another cost (such as "without paying its mana cost").

Bestow is an alternative way to cast a card. Alternative meaning, you have to pay only the Bestow cost.
Rules for Bestow and alternative costs:
702.102a Bestow represents two static abilities, one that functions while the card with bestow is on the stack and another that functions both while its on the stack and while its on the battlefield. Bestow [cost] means You may cast this card by paying [cost] rather than its mana cost. and If you chose to pay this spells bestow cost, it becomes an Aura enchantment and gains enchant creature. These effects last until one of two things happens: this spell has an illegal target as it resolves or the permanent this spell becomes, becomes unattached. Paying a cards bestow cost follows the rules for paying alternative costs in rules 601.2b and 601.2eg.
