Can moorland haunt exile tokens from the graveyard before they disappear

can I use Moorland Haunt to exile tokens from the graveyard right before they disappear?

I don't believe so, no. Tokens in any zone other than the battlefield cease to exist when state-based actions are checked, which is before and after any spell or ability resolves and at the end of each step and phase. State-based actions occur instantaneously, so I'm having a hard time thinking of a way you could get to a token in the graveyard before it disappears.

Soon as a token hits the grave, it will trigger anything that may say "When token goes to graveyard (*or "dies")...do XYZ" But as soon as that trigger is hit, the token will cease to be, before you can even get priority to play any instant or ability.

So all in all, No you can't get the ability of Moorland Haunt for tokens. Besides, Doesn't Moorland Haunt state "Creature Cards"? :)

Good point cardcoin. Tokens are not cards, so anything that asks for a card won't be able to affect a token, even for the brief moment it is in the graveyard.

Wizards knew people would ask this, thus they wrote "card"

Even if it didn't specify 'card', cardcoin nailed the reason for why it wouldn't work. Creature tokens are removed from the graveyard as a state-based action, so they would be gone before you got priority to target them with Moorland Haunt .

108.2. When a rule or text on a card refers to a "card," it means only a Magic card. This includes both traditional Magic cards, which measure approximately 2.5 inches (6.3 cm) by 3.5 inches (8.8 cm) and have a "Deckmaster" back, and nontraditional Magic cards, which are oversized and have different backs. Tokens aren't considered cardseven a card that represents a token isn't considered a card for rules purposes.

110.5f A token that's phased out, or that's in a zone other than the battlefield, ceases to exist. This is a state-based action; see rule 704. (Note that if a token changes zones, applicable triggered abilities will trigger before the token ceases to exist.)

Since the removal of tokens from non-battlefield zones is a state-based action, no player will receive priority in time to activate any abilities between the time the token hits the graveyard and the time it leaves that zone. In any case, the token would be missing when the ability tried to resolve anyway.

Moorland Haunt also specifies "creature card", and as indicated above, tokens are not cards.
