Can I tap an already tapped creature using a spell

Asked by Renaud 11 years ago

I have 5 land and two Favored Hoplite .
My opponents has two creatures.

Could I attack with the Favored Hoplite s and then cast Glimpse the Sun God and target all 4 creatures? (In order to trigger heroic for my Hoplites)

No. You can only tap untapped permanents; you can't tap a permanent that's already tapped.

Actually, the spell doesent require the creatures to be untapped beforehand, so they are legal targets. Once the spell resolves, the alredy tapped creatures will just stay like that. Heroic will triger on your hoplites.

It is just like Frost Breath , you can target tapped permanents.

Sorry, I misunderstood what the question was asking. Somehow I interpreted Glimpse the Sun God 's tap clause as an additional cost. I guess that's what I get for answering questions in class.

Anyway, daniferrito is right. You can target tapped creatures with a tap effect, but the effect won't tap them. Everything else still happens normally.

What you can't do is tap a tapped permanent as part of a payment. You can only tap untapped permanents, so tap payments must be paid with untapped permanents.
