Can I imprint X on Panoptic Mirror?

Can I imprint a card with "X" in the mana cost (Flock of Rabid Sheep ) on Panoptic Mirror ?
While you may/must pay additional costs with spells Imprinted on Panoptic Mirror (like Kicker spells, sacrificing a creature), X in the mana cost is (obviously) part of the mana cost itself. And since you don't pay the mana cost of Imprinted spells, X is defaulted to 0.

Can you choose to pay the mana cost? the Gatherer states that the copying of the spell and the casting of the copy without paying the mana cost are both optional. Can you choose to cast the copy while paying its mana cost?

You can. But, it would have no effect. Since Flock of Rabid Sheep has a CMC of 2, you'd pay the 2 imprint cost on Panoptic Mirror . Since you have to pay X for the spell to take any effect, which you cannot pay while imprinting, it does nothing when copied. You'd end up casting the spell, flipping no coins, and getting no tokens.
