Can i declare purple as a colour of mana?

Asked by toxonic 12 years ago

Chromatic Lantern and others like it, can i declare the mana i tap for as purple? (i know its pointless, but im just wondering)

No. The five colors of mana are white, blue, black, red, and green. If an effect asks or allows you to choose or produce any color of mana, you must select one of those five colors.

Yes you can. Just like you can set every card's color to Magenta if you played a card:Painter's Servant

105.4. If a player is asked to choose a color, he or she must choose one of the five colors. "Multicolored" is not a color. Neither is "colorless."

105 Colors

105.1. There are five colors in the Magic game: white, blue, black, red, and green.

105.4. If a player is asked to choose a color, he or she must choose one of the five colors. "Multicolored" is not a color. Neither is "colorless."

To be fair, when playing Un-formats, you can choose pink, Hazel and Brown as well. :3

@funkalunk

In an Un-format, you could choose anything, Purple included. Avatar of Me + Colored Contacts (which do count, as per the FAQTIWDAWCC) makes the color exist, therefore you can pick it.
