can a modern deck have more than 60 cards in it?

I want to add some new cards to my deck, but don't wish to take some out since I need them. also I want to use them in my main board, not my sideboard.

Yes. The 60-card limit is a minimum; a deck may contain more than 60 cards. The only restriction is that you must be able to shuffle it without assistance.

The sideboard limit, on the other hand, is a maximum; your sideboard may contain no more than 15 cards.

Note that, due to statistics, it's generally better to stick to 60 cards in the main deck. "Needing" more than that is typically a sign that you're trying to do too much or that there are other problems with the deck or your approach.
