Can I use back from the brink to exile a card like Gaea's Revenge and make copys?

Yes, you can, because Gaea's Revenge second ability only works while it is on the battlefield.

Yes, you could copy Gaea's Revenge, for two reasons. Back from the Brink doesn't target the card in the graveyard, so protection wouldn't affect it anyway. The second is that protection only functions when the card is a permanent, like most abilities, so it doesn't even matter. When it's in the graveyard, it doesn't have any abilities, so go nuts.
