Activated Abilities before draw step

Asked by likasumbody 12 years ago

Hey guys.

I was wondering, is it possible to use an activated ability as soon as your upkeep phase begins? right after untagging your creatures and before drawing your card. For example, if I have Mindshrieker on the battlefield, and I know that my card draw has a card with a high CMC, can I activate its ability prior to drawing and mill myself, then continue to draw my actual card for the turn?

Thanks!

Between the Untap Step and the Draw step is the Upkeep step. You will get Priority in this step and you can activate abilitys. They resolve before you proceed to your Draw step.

503 Upkeep Step

503.1. First, any abilities that trigger at the beginning of the upkeep step and any abilities that triggeredduring the turns untap step go on the stack. (See rule 603, Handling Triggered Abilities.)

503.2. Second, the active player gets priority. Players may cast spells and activate abilities.

504 Draw Step

BARTE is right. The active player gets priority at the beginning of every step and phase except for Untap and Cleanup. Upkeep comes before Draw, so feel free to go nuts.
