Points?

I recently upgraded my profile and noticed in the right hand column of my profile there is a thing that says "Points" (currently I'm at about 7800). My question is what are the points exactly? Can I use them for stuff or are they basically like a points version of my T/O rank?

they are the points that determine your T/O rank.
