If it is a draft at a card shop, then this covers a lot of ground rules.

Make sure you remember pass order. That's something we always drill into first-timers because a mis-passed pack can halt the process.

Once you make your selection, carefully re-randomize the pack to make it more difficult for the next drafter to determine what you took. The less information other players have, the better off you are. Also, pay attention to what's disappearing from the packs that make it back to you. Others' draft picks tell you about their colors and strategies.

The most important thing, though, is that you not lock yourself into a color or strategy too early. I've spectated plenty of drafters who open a strong pack-one-pick-one, then make the mistake of orienting all of their choices around that card. You don't have to do that, and you shouldn't do that. It ends up screwing you over because it's not possible for you to draft only cards related to that first choice. You'll end up in two or three colors most of the time, and you need some flexibility in those first choices.
