Multiplayer blocking

General forum

A few of the people I play with were having a heated discussion about this, so I would like to clear this rule up :p

If someone attacks and is blocked can the person who blocked, block again with the same creature if someone else attacks them right after? (Assuming the creature lived the first time and it hasn't been the blockers turn again before the second attack)

As I understand your question, say you have players A, B, and C. On A's turn, he attacks C. C blocks with a creature that does not die from the exchange. Next it's B's turn; now B attacks C. and C can block with any/all untaped creatures, including any that blocked A's previous attack. In general, any untapped creature can block (once per combat phase)

As far as I know, it's only not the case in the event of multiple players that take simultaneous turns. In two-headed giant, for example, a pair of players take a turn at once; they share an attack phase, so both will attack at the same time. Your creatures can normally only block one attacker at a time, regardless of the number of players involved in the attack. So in this case, you would effectively have the problem you were concerned about, only able to block one player's creatures; and I suspect it is possible someone familiar with this format who misunderstood why it works like this is where the confusion got started.

However, it has nothing to do with the number of players involved actually, it's just an attack like normal. I could see why someone might think it had to do with the number of players involved, though.
