Is a booster box worth it?

So I'm thinking about selling off some good money cards I have on hand but am not using. That money (a couple hundred) will either go to a booster box, or other stuff. Is a booster box worth the money? And if so, which ones are the best to get?

Well if your talking Standard, Dark Ascension and Innistrad have some good money in them. If your talking out of Standard, Zendikar and Rise of the Eldrazi have Eldrazi's and Fetch Lands which are worth quite a bit of money. I think Boxes are worth it, but if you are looking for specific cards, I would buy singles.

Speaking from a pure economic standpoint, a booster box isn't usually worth it. Even if the rares you open are, overall, worth the amount you paid for the box, most of those will be junk rares that you are unlikely to ever play. If you always want to get the best bang for your buck, just buy singles of the cards you need for whatever deck you may be building.

That being said, there's a certain thrill you can only achieve by opening up booster packs, and the most efficient way to get that thrill is to buy a booster box. A box is also a good way to build your collection if you're not looking for any one specific card. I usually pick up a box of each new set that comes out just so I have a card base and trade bait.

When the new sets come out, I usually buy a fat pack, and then continue to buy packs until the next set comes out. but with dragons maze, im thinking I should buy a box, because its such a small set, Ill probably pull 1 of everything out of it. Thats my thoughts on the matter, it really depends on how many cards are in the set, for me at least. If it was a huge set, id probably just buys singles instead.

I think opening packs is akin to gambling. Trying to pull a money card out of a $4.00 pack is like trying to get $1,000 from your few dollars on the slots. However, I love it and I always pick up a pack or two when I go to Wal-mart or my LGS. Like landgrafb said, it is thrilling.

It is mostly to expand my collection. I love opening boosters, and I was compelled to get one after my friend got a GTC box for easter.

If you have a local card shop that does limited events like sealed decks or booster drafts, those are good ways to spend money. If you win you can get more packs than you otherwise would with your money. If you don't win, you'll still have fun and over time you'll get better. I know it varies, but at my local card shop all you have to do is come in the top half of a booster draft pod to get a prize pack.

Any time a new set comes out me and my two buddies 3 way split a box and then just draft packs out not as going card by card but one person picks a pack, then the next and the next lol its a fun time.

I would say getting a box of this set would be wise due to the high count of legendary creatures in this small set. This could be a price break down if you dont have enough for one on your own

2 people 50-55 bucks 18 packs

3 people 30-34 bucks 12 packs

4 people 25-27 bucks 9 packs

But the money really comes if you get lucky on your foil rares, uncommons, and extra cards that come in the pack. I got a foil boros charm, and dimir charm which was an extra 16 bucks on just 2 uncommon ones.

The land slot can be another dual land rare, so that ups the overall value of this set in terms of cash money on packs versus the potential value out of packs. Also a mythic extra land slot will be worth more too.

This set will be great for combo's now and things in the future with this crazy legends that all-ready got spoiled. I can see this set being one of the craziest of all times and would buy a box/spilt a box if you can.

You can always use the force and pull out enough cards to trade with someone that is building the set. Small sets make everyone try to make a set.

I absolutely love opening packs, so a box is always worth it to me. However, if you're seriously interested in economics of it, I recommend talking to Epochalyptik. He's pretty good at figuring out the economics of a box, rather than just the giddy, pack opening glee.

I've always wanted to get a box, but I figured I'd break even with the worth of the cards being about what I paid for the box or less. But if I did I would want to get a new set box, because I'm in it for the new cards, not necessarily the money.

Well from how it sounds, me and 2 friends will be preordering a DGM box and splitting it, with whoever puts up the most getting the preorder promo card. My LGS has a punch card system where if you spend $250 in 6 months you get $50 of stuff free, and they do double punches for preordering boxes. I have $50 on the card so far, and this would fill it up.

What packs should I get with the $50?
