De-inking card issues

General forum

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask this so I apologize if I am wrong. I've been making some custom foil commanders for my edh decks and I've been running into issues with de-inking the cards. The foil layer comes off fine but the card edges are staring to warp and peel. Does anyone have any advice or experience with this? Thank you in advance

Steer clear of them when de-inking. Do you use acetone? If so, dab lightly with a Q-Tip, wait for it to dry somewhat, then wipe at it. Always works for me.

I've tried this before with no success. However, here's my thoughts based off of my one attempt and what seemed to have gone wrong.

If you're using acetone nail polish remover, try a q-tip with very little of it. Rub it on gently, then rub it off with a paper towel. Don't let the liquid get onto the cardboard! This is why you're having issues with warping edges. If there are any areas of the card you want to keep, use two or three layers of masking tape and/or a layer or two of duct tape.

Most importantly, be very patient (this was my mistake lol). If the ink doesn't come off right away, just leave the acetone on for a little longer the next try. Don't put more acetone on the q-tip unless it starts getting really dry, or it will soak into the card and cause it to warp.

Facebook group link.

There is a guy on there that does amazing work with foils. I don't know his name, but he posts regularly on there. You might also get better insight there as well.

NoPantsParade Kevin Lepage? He's a fucking legend when it comes to foils.

However, it looks like he does a lot of foil peels and not a lot of his own artwork, but I'm not sure.

welp I lied
