Hey all! So I live on an island, and take a small open boat to-and-from shore for Magic nights, and Im always worried about carrying thousands of dollars of water soluble cards back and forth like this.

Im wondering if anyone else has had the need for waterproof carrying cases, and if so, what did you end up using?

Thanks in advance! :D

Way overkill option

There is also the option of using an igloo water cooler which usually provides the main function you're looking for.

Haha, yeah, Pelican cases are the shit! :D Unfortunately they are also ridiculously expensive, hahaha! I was hoping for maybe something a little more budget friendly, < $100 hopefully :P The problem with the cooler is that generally the lids are not watertight should they go in the water :( Thanks though!

I can't give you one in particular, but I have seen people use camera bags as their carriers since a lot of them are well protected and hold deck boxes well.

Quick google something like this

True the cooler baseline isn't water tight, but it is a cheap starting option you can upgrade with the watertight seal, be it some good tape, or a bit more time consuming better made seal, you can also find some waterproof bags to add extra layers of protection.

Wouldn't it be sufficient enough to put your decks in a plastic bag or two inside your backpack?

Why not just invest in a pelican case? You say you've got thousands of dollars of cards. Spend a few hundred for a case. Or google waterproof box.

I would invest in a Pelican case in your case. Your on a boat; if it tips over the last thing on your mind will be the scramble for your cards so you need them to last under water for a short time.

If you go the tape the box up rout you may just not have tape one time (forgot) or just get lazy as we all do. If you go the rout of a water prof cooler you run the risk of it still popping open on a tip or just some leaking as they probably aren't meant to be submerged.

I would also as a secondary precaution I would double sleeve my cards as that also will help keep them dry and in the interim till you have the $$ for the expensive case should help.

maxon I should. Im just a cheap bastard I guess :P

Pervavita Yeah, Pelican is really the way to go, but... I could get a box of UMA for the price of a Pelican case :P Out of curiosity, what do you suggest for sleeves to double sleeve with?

You're right to be mindful of big expenses, but I think you'll find after the shock of the cost wears off, you'll be happy with the piece of mind knowing your cards are safe. I bet you might even be more inclined to go to games. You could always buy used too.

I use KMC inner sleeves and Ultra pro Eclipse sleeves for outer. They are a bit high on cost but they shuffle great, durable, and you can hold them in a bowl full of water and still come out with dry cards. I wouldn't recommend any extended time under water though.
