Commander League point system ideas.

Commander (EDH) forum

I have recently joined a Commander League.

We meet for 6 Saturdays (not always in a row) over a few month period and play 2 games per day. (12 games total) - You do not have to use the same Commander or even deck from one game to the next. - No proxies (unless you can show you own the card, but don't want to risk damaging it in play)

There is a point system as follows:
- 5 points - Win the game.
- 3 points per opponent you killed.
- 2 points for each opponent remaining if you suicide/scoop.
- 1 point for a variety of 'objective' you may or may not be able to complete.

Some objectives include:
- Unlimited combo (any type)
- Take 5 or more consecutive turns.
- Control 5 or more permanents you do not own.
- Kill someone with Commander Damage
- Kill someone with Poison Counters
- Kill someone with their own creature- Control at least one of each basic land (not just lands of a basic type, but actual basic lands)
- many more...

You cannot get more than 1 point for an objective per day, even if they were in different games.

You can not get more than one objective point for a single action or series of actions... (i.e.: Unlimited Turn combo can count as either "Unlimited Combo", or "Take 5 or more consecutive turns", but not both), but if you do the same combo in another game, you can count it as one of each for that day.

It has been lots of fun so far (3 weekends / 6 games into the season)

What I'm looking for are more ideas for viable, but not too easy objectives to be added in the next EDH season.

A variety is nice... some may be easier for certain deck types, and almost impossible in others, etc.

Two that I want to add is "Directly assist one opponent in killing another. (pump attacking creature for example)", and "Directly save an opponent from death by another opponent. (By countering a direct damage spell that would be lethal, for example... cannot also be saving yourself at the time)"

...I think that may have been worded wrong...

"- 2 points for each opponent remaining if you suicide/scoop.", means Your opponents get 2 points each... it's not you getting the points for scooping.

Oh... and I like having more "multi-player" oriented ideas. Some of the ones like "Control a creature with power 15 or greater", really doesn't make a difference if you're one on one or multi-player.

All ideas welcome though!

It would help to have a complete list of optional objectives so we don't bother you with things you already have but some of the ones I have enjoyed are:

Extra point for each opponent you defeat in a single action. So if you off 3 opponents with the same action (combat, spell etc.) you get 3pts for the first, 4pts for the second, and 5pts for the 3rd etc. as long as they were beaten during a single combat or by a singular effect or spell.

You are awarded an extra point if you deal damage to each opponent in the game. This takes into account all players at the start of the match, does not count if you hit the last 3 opponents remaining at the time.

Political points for being able to assign an attacker to each player in a single combat phase.

Those are just a few hope something was new!

I like this concept a lot better than the approach of trying to control what other people play with petty penalties.

I like a lot of the ideas on the list NuBByThuMB found. Maybe it would be the most fun to have events that focus on different sets of goals that could be theme-related and those goals and maybe something like official titles can follow the player who achieved them around somehow - there could be a record at an LGS showing which achievenemts different players have gotten.

I think this makes it more fun and interesting. I especially like the way that the original post sets up a +5 for ultimate win but +3 per kill - so that he dude who sits back and pulls a win out at the end may not have a higher score than the player who took political risks and mixed it up a lot with other players, giving them threats to answer and deal with to define the game action.
