U.S.A. citizens, C-SPAN 2- Senators debate on Affordable Healthcare Act and Planned Parenthood

The purpose of this thread is to inform you all of the programming of C-SPAN 2, which I believe concerns every citizen of the U.S.A. The purpose of this thread is to inform you in the hopes that if you are able you will turn on this program and enlighten yourselves.

Some of the tidbits:

  • Multiple Senators delivering speeches calling for the repeal of the Affordable Healthcare Act.
  • Some Senators saying the AHA is a good thing. (Sen. Christopher Murphy of Connecticut for example.)
  • Some senators say that the AHA caused over 40% increases in deductibles since it's enactment.
  • Some senators say that that many health insurance coops dropping out of the AHA Marketplace.
  • Senators say that many rural hospitals have had to close due to the AHA. (Particularly in Georgia.)
  • The current repeal in it's legal form also defunds Planned Parenthood and changes something else, I didn't catch what else it was.
  • Senator of Conneticut speaking now (2:12 P.M. Eastern time U.S.A.). Seems to be in favor.
  • Divide among senators on whether the act should be repealed or just modified. Senator Christopher Murphy is the first (that I've seen in the last 4 Senators) that seems to be saying it's a good thing; More people have coverage, cost to hospitals is going down. Says "if you want your hospitals to work, implement the affordable healthcare act".
  • Sen Sherod Brown of Ohio says that many of the hospitals that closed did so because of the states unwillingness to expand Medicade, not an AHA issue. Says that 600,000 have insurance in his state because of Medicade and that they should vote to expand Medicade, not to take it away.
  • Sen Debbie Stabenow, Michigan, says many people are happy that they can afford insurance now under the AHA. Says the AHA was "the next important step" of America towards expanding healthcare coverage. Says that many people would get dropped once they got sick before the AHA. That being a woman is better under the AHA. Says that the reconciliation bill which Senators are seeking to pass would "pull out the rug" from under millions of Americans.
  • Senator John Thune, South Dakota approximately 3:15 P.M. U.S. Eastern time: "after 5 years one thing has become clear; Obomacare is not working." "..the average family is paying more for their premium." Senator bringing in anecdotes of people considering dropping insurance to be able to afford bills and of others facing higher costs.

There is a lot more going on and this is not a place to debate about it. Replies are unnecessary, just watch if you care, ignore if you don't.

Sen Debbie Sabenow "...it seems one more time women's healthcare is attacked. Takes on all kinds of different forms but it always ends up in the same thing. Challenges to women's healthcare." "Millions will lose their coverage if this passes."

This is pretty good training for a stenographer or transcription position lol. My computer can't keep up with my typing even when I am keeping up though.

Regardless of your position for or against PP. I don't think an agency like that needs government funding when it takes in a profit.

All I know is that I'm very glad my workplace subsidizes my health insurance for my wife and I. Humana is our benefits company and they do a fairly good job I suppose. I know more friends who have lost insurance or have faced upwards of 150% increases in their monthly premiums and reductions in coverage because of Obamacare. Thankfully I haven't been too effected personally.

I live in Springfield, MO for what it's worth and work for a private attractions company for what it's worth.
