Let's Talk Music!

So I came to a realization the other day. I haven't gotten a chance to listen to anything new lately, and that's really bumming me out. I guess, ever since I finished school I haven't gotten to talk to too many people about music, so it makes sense.

Now my question to you fine folks is, what are your favorite bands/ musicians? What do you listen to whenever you get the chance to? Do you like to mix up the genre, or stick close to it? Hit me up with your top 3, let's spread the music!

As for me, my favorite three are...

The Reign of Kindo

The Dear Hunter

Halestorm

Right now I am going between Rings of Saturn, Hopesfall and The Contortionist.. although I may have snuck in some Stone Temple Pilots and Alien Ant Farm, it's usually the heavier the better for me

From your own picks I'm guessing you like obscure stuff. Here are a few that might interest you.

The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love This is my personal favorite bit of a concept album that you might enjoy if you like stuff like The Dear Hunter. I feel The Decemberists fall short of being a top band because of Colin Meloy, the band's center. He's an incredible song writer... but an imperfect vocal lead.

Birdy - Skinny Love You know honestly I don't like her as an artist. This version of Skinny Love just blows my socks off though. I've probably listened to it a hundred times.

Clean Bandit - Dust Clears

Depends on the mood, but I listen to a very wide variety.

If I'm happy and really looking to livin' things up, Da De Da all the way!

If I have something I need to get done, or need inspiration, Vogel im Kafig is my go-to.

And lastly, Kuusou Mesorogiwi mainly for action-game purposes.

blink-182

Misfits

Dead Kennedys

It's fairly obvious that I'm into punk rock, and it's usually what I stick to. I'll listen to basically anything though.

For me in no particular order:

Boston

Blue Oyster Cult

and Gustav Holst and British Band Friends

So I do jump around a lot in music styles but hey, I love what I grew up with.

Man that was fast. Honestly, this community is one of the best out there. :).

I'm going through all your recommendations now, and let me say, there is some cool stuff here. So now i've got another question, does anyone know of anything particularly... funky? I've been on a funk jam lately and I just can't stop.

My musical awakening happened long ago. I first started listening to Eminen and 50 cent because I had no real concept of what I like and they seemed popular. It wasn't until I listened to the album By the Way by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Been a big fan since them. Highly recommend listening to them Live at Slane Castle.

Well, anything by Parliament-Funkadelic (Used to be two funk bands, now both headed by George Clinton) is a good place to start. Also any Detroit Do-Wop from the 50's is another place to look as well.

Hope this was helpful.

My top three would be something along the lines of:

Be careful about watching the first two, they aren't exactly for anyone that's a bit squeamish.

Psychopathic Daze-Moment of Clarity

The Wretched End-Death by Nature

DragonForce-Where Dragons Rule

I'm typically into Metal or Death Metal, but that doesn't really encapsulate my taste accurately. If it isn't pop or some hipster shit I'll probably listen to it. But this song has been incredible to me. Something about it is just awesome. Pretty sure its the sick bass.

The Who - Eminence Front

Hmm, I always seem to be the outlier when it comes to music on this site! xD I'm not at all into Metal like most people on here are, and I'm not into anything that's more modern, either. I'll just shut up and say it:

Styx - Babe

Blue Swede - Hooked on a Feeling

Player - Baby Come Back

However, I do like Daft Punk. Above are my favorite songs, but my bands would be Styx, Queen, and DP.

Currently listening to some People under the stairs and looping the 3rd OST from Cowboy Bebop. Air's album Pocket symphony is a good one I've been picking up again recently.

For funk you can never go wrong with... Bootsy Collins.

However, Im staying out of the discussion of musical taste, as I usually end up punching people when talking about it.

maiden77: Glad to see a fellow Periphery fan on here! I've never been able to see them live, as they seem to be afraid of Washington lol.

I love Periphery and really any other progressive music (metal or not). Coheed and Cambria is another one of my favorite bands.

Disturbed, you say? I haven't listened to them since Ten Thousand Fists was new. I like that album quite a bit but have moved on to different music.

Yep! Disturbed went on a 4 year break back in '11 but they are back now with a new album on the way in august.
