How times have changed! —Nov. 23, 2022

I realized a couple months ago, just before CommanderFest 2022, that I rarely play Nekusar anymore. It's for a couple reason, primarily due to Grixis just being slow, no ramp, I'm not going to waste a tutor on a mana rock etc. Another solid reason was that Nekusar is a lightning rod, he just gets murdered so quickly. Usually he will die with a wheel on the stack, so then everyone gets a fresh hand and take zero damage.

What you see here is a lot more low cost mana rocks, a lot more removal and what I call, 'alternative threats' - most of the creatures my playgroup have never encountered. The idea here is to get one of these alternative threats to stick through a wheel and then take the removal. I'm hoping that I can continue dropping these little pingers, to get off some damage either on draw or discard and have them eat enough removal for me to be able to get out Nekusar. Rinse and repeat a couple times then finally, finish off the game (turn 7,8,9) by casting Nekusar + a wheel same turn.
