Spawning Pit was nice as a multiple use sacrifice outlet, but I felt like I had enough useful infinite sac outlets in the deck and wasn't taking advantage of anything Spawning Pit did. Soldevi Adnate fills the spot as a single use sac outlet with an ability that can give you some explosive turns.
Grim Return was too situational. You could do some neat things by recurring creatures that had died, but everything had to line up for it to work. I'm looking to cut some of the clunkiness from the deck and fill it with more gas. Sign in Blood will fill this spot to keep cards flowing if I don't have any draw engine in play. I'm also looking for spots for Night's Whisper and Read the Bones. I'm considering cutting some of the more expensive reanimation spells for the extra draw.
In my quest to smooth the deck out, Harvester of Souls gets cut in favor of Grim Haruspex. Harvester has a higher ceiling because it can draw from anyone's creatures dying, but at 6 mana it was difficult to leverage. Grim Haruspex can come down early to take full advantage of any sacrificing I may be doing. I also rarely win through combat, so the 5/5 deathtouch body was irrelevant.
