Doomsday Streamline + Removed/Added Cards —June 15, 2021
Majority of cards added we're to apply greater usefulness in a Doomsday stack combo and to upgrade some cards that seemed weaker in the deck.
Removed 1 Island in place for a Dauthi Voidwalker (The deck APPEARS as non-legal. Although this is inaccurate; this card currently IS legal in commander; link to legality listed below)
Dauthi Legality: [https://scryfall.com/card/mh2/81/dauthi-voidwalker]
Removed: Seer's Lantern Telling Time Wayfarer's Bubble Aether Gale Island
Added: Village Rites Gush Street Wraith Gitaxian Probe (JP Foil) Lotus Petal (JP)
(Side-Board): Ratchet Bomb
Telling Time removed for Village Rites: Telling time wasn't something I inherently needed to remove but in terms of options, I didn't see too much that could have been very good to remove at the time (in my opinion.) We have quite a few cards similar to telling time that still leave that type of card in the deck but compared to cards like this; telling time seemed like a less viable option, thus it was removed. We're removing this to make room for Village Rites; This card can play a nice role in the Doomsday Stack and is a very affordable option allowing us to draw 2 cards by sacrificing a creature.
Island removed for Gush: Not too much to say here other than the fact that there is tons of mana in the deck already and It hasn't had any issues popping up in the deck so removing one for a solid combo piece for the Doomsday stack is a fine choice to make and allows for more diverse and interesting plays.
Aether Gale removed for Street Wraith: While this deck is lacking in terms of removal; I've opted to gain something I deemed a bit more important... Street wraith. This card works better for doomsday but in terms of Aether, it seems kind of useless; The card FORCES you to return six permanents making it extremely situational and far too expensive to even deem viable in the deck, the only reason you may want this card is to use its 5 mana cost as some extra punch with Yuriko's secondary ability. With Streetwraith; not only is it a good for Doomsday, but it has the SAME mana cost as Aether so it can be used with yuriko if needed, as well as having swampwalk so it can act as an un-blockable if needs be, as well as having cycling for the combo.
Seer's Lantern removed for Gitaxian Probe: Seers lantern does have its uses but in this deck there could be more optimal cards in place of this. I have'nt found myself in a spot where I'd need mana or need to scry very often; This card is far too expensive to run thus probe poses a far better option as well as being a card used for doomsday stack. For only 1 mana OR 2 life (great option when an opponent may think you have nothing left) probe allows us to not only get information on what an enemy may have waiting for us during a combo like doomsday; making it easy to consider options to prevent counter play; BUT it also allows us to draw a card, which is very important to continue doomsday.
Wayfarer's Bauble removed for Lotus Petal: While Bauble can be a card that helps to gain better control over what lands you have on the field; Its far too expensive coming in at 3 mana altogether opposed to the 0 mana required to cast lotus petal. On top of the fact that the card that bauble fetches comes in tapped, lotus petal is just altogether a more useful and faster option; not to mention cheaper. With all these factors in mind it also plays a great component in the Doomsday stack combo.
