The mage closes his eyes, with hopes of dreaming about saving the universe from evil. A sense of purpose within their heart, the mage drifts to sleep after a long hard day of training on the beach. Just as suddenly as they lay their head on the pillow, they begin to see images in their dream. A wizard casting a spell. A dragon breathing fire. Then, a white and reddish fog of bright light surrounds them. Unable to see where they are going, they wander aimlessly.
"Young mage," a godly voice calls out, "I know your potential."
The mage turns in circles, trying to locate the source of the voice.
The voice continues, "You must reach it on your own. I will train you. This will take some time." The voice echoes in the mage's dream as the mage is engulfed in a bright fog of energy.
Suddenly, the mage is awake. They step out of their bed with a stretch and a yawn.
"Oh boy, I sure slept through that night quickly," the mage exclaims, walking to their bedroom door.
As they open the door, a surge of energy launches them backwards.
"YOOOWWW!!! What the blazes of Chandra was that?"
As they gather themself up, they look up and out their bedroom door. In complete disbelief, they stare as they creep forward toward the doorway.
"Where.. am I?"
The voice returns, but this time, from directly behind them. "You are where I wish you to be."
The mage turns around to see a humanoid figure surrounded by a dim grey aura. Unable to make out any features, the mage is met with a calming presence as it continues to speak, leaving the mage speechless.
"You have a spark, and you must discover it with time and training. Let's not waste any time. There are many who need your help. Return here when you are ready to continue. This is your first encounter."
The Entity, as you will come to refer to it, begins to radiate so brightly that it emits a force, sending the mage through the doorway.
Welcome to the Mystery World of Encounters. You are a young mage learning their way in the multiverse. An unknown being of omnipresence, referred to as The Entity, knows your true potential and wishes to train you across the eons to become more wise and more powerful than any planeswalker. The catch: The Entity planeswalks you to a community under imminent threat of annihilation. What will you encounter there?
You can take on these encounters as a lone wolf, or you can join forces with the community and other mages that The Entity sends to the community's defense. (Community links at the bottom.)
Just when you thought it was easy enough, The Entity can strip some of your powers, leaving you to deck build in more specific ways.
Lone Wolf
- As a lone wolf, you need not converse with any community member or other mage, but you can certainly comment on the encounter deck that you'd like a role for the encounter, and The Entity will give you your role for the encounter. Your role dictates how you can construct your deck.
Community Effort
- So, you wish to join the fray and chitter chatter with the community members to immerse yourself in the experience? No problem. On the community pages you can receive your role for the encounter, as well as additional prizes from time to time. Not to mention, you can share your strategies and sneak a peek at victorious decks to "borrow" some tactics, not that you'd need the help.
YouTube Battles
- For those seeking a ride on the wilder side, post your deck and a request to have it fought on video. The Entity will use your deck to fight the encounter instead of you needing to pull up all those windows and tabs on your screen.
- This be no guarantee that The Entity will have time to make it happen. After all, The Entity is off recruiting many mages, but they shall see your comment, nonetheless.
