Some notes on other Goblins builds —June 3, 2023

Hello Goblins,

I was feeling a bit down on my build recently so I decided to try a few other brews of goblins that I've seen around the internet. A few Goblin based decks have had 5-0 lists on MTGO and gotten as high as 9th in the challenges. With that success I decided to see what they were working with.

Rakdos Goblins: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/pioneer-rakdos-goblins#paper

'Gruul' Goblins: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/pioneer-gruul-goblins#paper

Each of these builds brings something different to the tribe. Rakdos plays a mid-range game with the ability to wipe one side of the board by giving Chainwhirler deathtouch. The 'Gruul' build is really a much more aggressive deck with 20+ 1 drops and another combo kill with Prospector and the goblins that deal damage equal to their power when they die. I played both at my local pioneer events and RCQs. The main game plan of 1 drop, Hordemaster/Battle Cry, into hasty 1 drops attack, continues to impress. The back up plans of each deck didn't really come together for me when I played them.

Going forward I'll try returning to a more basic build of Goblins. I do see the power of Conspicuous Snoop having played it so much these past few weeks. When it survives just getting 1 card off it is enough, more than one can be broken against the mid-range decks. There will be an update after my next event in a few weeks time.

Good Luck and have fun everyone!

Hey Gecko! I've been really enjoying your write-ups on the progress of the deck! I am also a Goblins player and have been testing stuff. My main floundering choice here is Snoop. I have middling success with it, it's a banger of a card but I'm still not sure myself if I need it. I see the most recent tourney report included Snoop, but the new updated list doesn't include it. How are you feeling about Snoop?

Hello Zuppolo and ZombiZeke,

The current list is the list as would play it any given tournament. I often experiment with a card choice or two depending on what I see in the room before finalizing deck registration or what I read up on in the recent metagame. Snoop is that card right now. I've played with Snoop before but hated it early game when it's just a 2/2 for 2. After turn 4 it's much better as you can get a ton of value on it. I'm still iffy, but I think I'll continue to try a misers copy for now.

That's how I've felt about Snoop as well. Thanks for the response! I've been toying with throwing two in the side to replace the Chainwhirler's. The only decks I feel it's decent against seem to outpace the 1 toughness rate these days. First Strike is still a thing of course, but the value from Snoop in some matchups is hard to ignore.

Fellow Goblin player here! New to this site and the forums. This is my first post!!! Hooray!! Lol. So my Goblin deck is a bit different. I splash green for Atarka's Command and run token generating Goblins and spells. Go wide and finish with the Command card. It's super fast and has a great win rate. I also run dragon fodder, hordeling outburst, and Legion Warboss. 4 x rundvelt hordemaster and 4 x hobgoblin bandit lord to make the little guys bigger. I also play 4 x battle cry goblin. 4 x legion loyalist 4 x foundry street denizen. Atarka's Command is so good. It can stop your opponent from gaining life, hit them for three, pump your boys plus one plus one or ramp your mana. Love that card! You can also be spicy and run a single copy of become immense as another finisher. Love my Atarka Goblins! <3
