How does ninjitsu affect creatures i stole as well as a Phantasmal image?

Asked by wolfboy 2 years ago

I have two questions, So ninjitsu reads (Ninjutsu [cost] (Return an unblocked attacker you control to hand: Put this card onto the battlefield from your hand tapped and attacking.) So if i steal an opponents creature with a bestowed Hypnotic Siren , i then attack with their creature, and attempt to ninjitsu a ninja in, Does this return the siren controlled creature to my opponents hand or my hand? because the ninjitsu text just reads return a creature i control to hand. it doesnt specify its owners hand. And my second question is can i ninjitsu a Phantasmal Image back to my hand? Because ninjitsu technically doesnt target, and returning the creature is paying a cost for an ability.

From the comprehensive rules:

702.49a Ninjutsu is an activated ability that functions only while the card with ninjutsu is in a player's hand. "Ninjutsu [cost]" means "[Cost], Reveal this card from your hand, Return an unblocked attacking creature you control to its owner's hand: Put this card onto the battlefield from your hand tapped and attacking.”

The stolen creature is returned to its owner's hand, regardless of the shorthand used in reminder text. Ninjutsu doesn't target, so you can return a creature with shroud or one with the illusion trigger like Phantasmal Image .
