Adventure and eye of the storm

Asked by tef3ri 2 years ago

If I have an Eye of the Storm in play and I cast an adventure card, say, Fae of Wishes as its adventure, and exile it with Eye of the Storm, can I copy and cast it with Eye of the Storm? Could I copy the creature half of the adventure card with eye of the storm?

You will not be able to cast either Fae of Wishes or Fae of Wishes. Adventure cards only have their normal characteristics when not on the stack. This means that Fae of Wishes will be a creature card in exile and Eye of the Storm specifically says "Then that player copies each instant or sorcery card exiled with Eye of the storm." If it said "copies each card" it would copy it and you could cast either part, but as written it will not copy it at all.

716.4. In every zone except the stack, and while on the stack not as an Adventure, an adventurer card has only its normal characteristics.

It gets worse. Since it got exiled by Eye of the Storm before the Adventure resolved, the card will also not be "on an adventure," so you won't be able to cast the creature from exile later.

Polaris That's not true. It only cares that it's in exile, not how it got there. Since it's in exile (under Eye of the Storm), you are able to cast the creature, you just aren't able to cast the instant/sorcery part while Eye of the Storm is out.

However with enough mana and something like an Unsummon exiled under EotS, you could potentially cast any instant or sorcery you want returning the creature to your hand, casting the instant/sorcery part, copying the other cards exiled under EotS.. most likely using Brazen Borrower as it has flash so you can put it out before the Unsummon resolves.

The fifth ruling on all cards with Adventure agrees with Polaris. This is because what is allowing the card to be cast from exile is an effect tied to the resolution of the adventure, not a base characteristic from being a card with an adventure.

"If a spell is cast as an Adventure, its controller exiles it instead of putting it into its owner's graveyard as it resolves. For as long as it remains exiled, that player may cast it as a creature spell. If an Adventure spell leaves the stack in any way other than resolving (most likely by being countered or by failing to resolve because its targets have all become illegal), that card won't be exiled and the spell's controller won't be able to cast it as a creature later."

715.3d Instead of putting a spell that was cast as an Adventure into its owner’s graveyard as it resolves, its controller exiles it. For as long as that card remains exiled, that player may cast it. It can’t be cast as an Adventure this way, although other effects that allow a player to cast it may allow a player to cast it as an Adventure.
