Blue/Red Control/Burn Deck Help

Pioneer Deck Help forum

Posted on Aug. 11, 2023, 9:52 p.m. by BadgerBadger0213

I haven’t played in years and am getting back into it again.

I’m making a blue red control/burn deck based around the Niv Mizzet cards and Arcanis the Omnipotent.

I also am using cards like counterspell, Ionize, Shock, and Lightning Bolt.

How many counters, burn cards, and creatures should I use?

Are there any cards you can recommend to me?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

The cards you listed aren't Standard-legal, but this thread ended up in the Standard deck help forum.

Are you trying to make a Standard deck, or a deck with Counterspell, Arcanis the Omnipotent, etc.?

is dipping somewhat in Standard right now, but still has some tools. is cresting and has a lot of support. and are also strong Standard options.

If you want to use the cards you listed, Modern's going to be the format.

How competitive do you want the deck to be? Are you planning on entering tournaments, or playing casually? Do you want to stay under a specific deck or per-card budget?

Caerwyn Could you please get this to the Pioneer forum?

BadgerBadger0213 I'm not a Pioneer expert, but here's a couple of tournament decks you might take inspiration from. (I don't have links enabled, sorry.)

For casual, it depends on what you expect to see a lot. Maybe start with about 40% burn, 30% draw, 30% counterspell and see how that works for you.
