Anyways, here's Urza Ironworks.

Don't actually expect any of this to be good. It's probably trash. But it's my trash. I love it. Also I like Krark-Clan Ironworks and there is some neat unexplored space in EDH. I put my loops and stuff here. Also it's probably not 100% complete as in EDH there is a lot of extra space and cards which can fit in these loops. Hopefully it just gives enough of a starting point to figure out what the heck this list can do. Consider it my dumping ground, to keep consistent with the trash theme.
Okay, let's just get this out of the way now.

No really, why?

You got me

How much of this garbage is just copy paste from GitHub?

Shut up

Is this deck good?

No

Why are you writing about it?

I want to put all my Krark-Clan Ironworks loops in one spot. There are more in EDH that you can't do in Modern. Here's a spot for them.

# Add card choices here. Actually though, it's all made up and just forcing a trash EDH combo. I mean I can't
# justify about half these cards.

1. Find Krark-Clan Ironworks

2. Have

3. Play Krark-Clan Ironworks

4. Win? Or lose. Probably that. I don't know.

Yeah, didn't think that through too much. Just find Scrap Trawler, Myr Retriever, and Krark-Clan Ironworks, and go to town.

There is actually nothing of worth I had to say here. It's just space to make me look like I know what I'm doing. I actually don't. But maybe if my code has 78 extra lines it will make me feel smart.

import primer

Ah yeah, here we are. The only thing of worth in this primer. Get ready for the loooops.

LOOPS

All of these loops require you to have Krark-Clan Ironworks + Scrap Trawler. So for all these descriptions (including IN PLAY), I'll just assume we have it.

So we're on the same page.

Krark-Clan Ironworks + Scrap Trawler = Mana

Oh yikes that's awful why am I doing this.

Bread and Butter

This is a pretty normal loop borrowed kinda(?) from the OG KCI crew.

Myr Retriever + Sculpting Steel (or another CMC 3 artifact) + Things with CMC or less that net positive at least mana.

This loop is pretty straightforward. Sculpting Steel functions as the second Myr Retriever for only the first round in this one, but Sculpting Steel costs , so you can return Myr Retriever with it. This is pretty easy to remedy with any of the silly mana rocks. For example, here is a loop with Sol Ring to net an arbitrarily large amount of mana and win with Urza, Lord High Artificer.

IN PLAY: Myr Retriever + Sculpting Steel copying Retriever + Sol Ring

  1. Tap Sol Ring to add .
  2. Sacrifice Sol Ring to Krark-Clan Ironworks, mana pool - .
  3. Eat a Myr Retriever, return Sol Ring (and another card, whatever you want), mana pool - .
  4. Eat Sculpting Steel to return Myr Retriever, mana pool - .
  5. Cast Myr Retriever and Sol Ring, mana pool - .
  6. Tap/sacrifice Sol Ring, mana pool - .
  7. Eat Myr Retriever, return Sculpting Steel and Sol Ring, mana pool - .
  8. Cast Sculpting Steel, copy Scrap Trawler, mana pool - .
  9. Go to step 4, and repeat through 9, noting that you will have more mana, and you return 2 cards off the Scrap Trawler copy trigger - Sol Ring and Myr Retriever.

You've probably noticed why this works. The total casting cost of Sculpting Steel and Myr Retriever is , and Krark-Clan Ironworks pays for all of that but . This is where Sol Ring comes into play and nets mana, for the last bit from Sculpting Steel, to pay for Sol Ring itself, and finally bonus.

Then you dump into the terrible UI and win.

Okay so a real observation, this is a mixture of 2 of the primary loops from modern. Something to note, you don't actually need Sculpting Steel, but I use it here since it's useful in copying either Scrap Trawler or Myr Retriever and thus nets you extra cards to work with. But the bare minimum is also fine.

Weird Jank Paying Mana Costs Loop

This loop is weird. If you played Modern during the reign of Krark-Clan Ironworks though, you know it. It involves paying a mana cost and then eating everything to return everything at once.

IN PLAY: Myr Retriever + 1x 1 CMC card

IN HAND: 1x 1 CMC card

  1. Announce your intent to pay for whatever trash I've put in the deck that costs .
  2. Eat Myr Retriever, the other CMC 1, and then Scrap Trawler (order matters, more later) card to pay for the cost, mana pool - .
  3. The card resolves, mana pool - .
  4. Every card you ate returns to your hand. Here's how. Scrap Trawler and Myr Retriever return each other. The Myr Retriever has a second die trigger from Scrap Trawler, so it returns the CMC 1 card.
  5. Replay Scrap Trawler and Myr Retriever, empty mana pool.
  6. Go back to step 1, and rinse and repeat.

Now what matters is what those CMC 1 cards are. If it's a Chromatic Star, you draw a card. If it's a 1 CMC mana rock, you net mana and go infinite that way. If you have random garbage 1 CMC blanks, you can toss in a Mox Opal for the 1 CMC card to return to net positive mana.

Some notes:

  • You can't announce intent to pay for a mana cost of . That step doesn't exist. You can't just throw mana at everything and expect it to work. Unless you're playing CST.
  • Looping with Mox Diamond may look appealing. It's not.

The Sacrifice Loop

This one uses either Chromatic Star, Chromatic Sphere, Sensei's Divining Top, or Aether Spellbomb, to draw the deck.

IN PLAY: Myr Retriever + 1 of the 4 listed cards + Mox Opal

  1. Tell your table you want to pay for the ability cost of one of the 4 cards listed. Note that if you are doing this with Sensei's Divining Top, tap it, then attempt to activate its ability.
  2. Pay for the ability by sacrificing Krark-Clan Ironworks, Myr Retriever, and Mox Opal, mana pool - . NOTE: If doing this with Sensei's Divining Top, sacrifice it too.
  3. Ability activates, you draw a card.
  4. All cards sacrificed this way and the 1 CMC card return to your hand, but you drew a card! Krark-Clan Ironworks returns Myr Retriever which returns Krark-Clan Ironworks and the 1 CMC card, and finally, the 1 CMC card returns Mox Opal.
  5. Replay all the cards returned, and go to step 1.

This works by attempting to pay the activation cost of the 1 CMC card. It's pretty much directly from Modern but we get more cool toys like Sensei's Divining Top, which even nets you mana.

There's an important note on why this loops works and why we sacrifice Krark-Clan Ironworks here and not Scrap Trawler. When we try to pay a cost for activation, there is an order to how things work, in which we use mana abilities to add mana and then we pay the cost in its entirety. Notably, after we sacrifice things in excess to pay the , we then use the mana to pay the cost - which includes sacrificing either Chromatic Sphere or Chromatic Star. If we eat Trolley, it's not in play to see this and we won't be able to return everything that is listed in this loop. However, this is also a mana ability so provided everything is done in the right order, triggers are placed on the stack and targets chosen the next time a player gains priority, which lets everything target everything. Essentially, after you eat a Scrap Trawler for mana, it stops seeing things go to the graveyard and no longer triggers.

This is probably strange to read, because it is just a strange and complicated scenario. The order matters when you pay for costs but the triggers all happen together because that is based on priority. Note that this is in contrast to the cost payment loop above, since there is just the single step and during that step everything is eaten in the correct order to see everything else.

wack

T H E D Y N A M O

Thran Dynamo is a sick mana rock, as it can return Myr Retriever off of a Scrap Trawler trigger and be mana positive for the entire process. Sick huh? Basalt Monolith also works but for meme value I'm using the Dynamo.

IN PLAY: Myr Retriever + Thran Dynamo

  1. Sacrifice Myr Retriever, mana pool - .
  2. Tap and sacrifice Thran Dynamo, return Myr Retriever, mana pool - .
  3. Cast Myr Retriever, mana pool - .
  4. Sacrifice Myr Retriever, return Thran Dynamo, mana pool - .
  5. Cast Thran Dynamo, mana pool - .
  6. Go to step 2 and execute T H E D Y N A M O.

So yeah. The total casting cost of Myr Retriever + Thran Dynamo is , but they net a total of mana. Dope.

Thinking about this one makes me happy. Though admittedly, it's the simplest in the list. It's just cute.

Literally Basalt Monolith works and it makes me sad. But I'm leaving it as T H E D Y N A M O.

Ban Mox Opal

Urza, Lord High Artificer and Sai, Master Thopterist modify the previous loops and make them actually pretty silly and easy. Both actually simply go infinite with the basic combo. I'll highlight how to do it with Sai, Master Thopterist; with Urza, Lord High Artificer in play just tap Myr and Trolley for mana.

IN PLAY: Myr Retriever + Sai, Master Thopterist

  1. Sacrifice Myr Retriever, mana pool - .
  2. Sacrifice Scrap Trawler to return Myr Retriever, mana pool - .
  3. Cast Myr Retriever, make a thopter, mana pool - .
  4. Eat both the Myr Retriever (to return Scrap Trawler), and the thopter, mana pool - .
  5. Cast Scrap Trawler, make a thopter, mana pool - .
  6. Go to step 2, and go wild.

You can see how Sai and Urza patch up this loop and allow you to loop with just Krark-Clan Ironworks, Scrap Trawler, and Myr Retriever. If you have to eat Scrap Trawler, you lose the ability to return 2 cards at once, which is often how many of these loops work. But if you just net mana off them, you can cycle between Trolley and Myr and win.

Emry, Lurker of the Loop

Emry, Lurker of the Loch is a sweet card. She also works with Corridor Monitor and a 0-drop color producing rock to go infinite with Krark-Clan Ironworks and Scrap Trawler. This loops is great and stupid.

IN PLAY: Emry, Lurker of the Loch (Not sick) + Corridor Monitor + Mox Opal

  1. Tap Mox Opal for and sacrifice it, mana pool - .
  2. Sacrifice Corridor Monitor with Krark-Clan Ironworks and return Mox Opal to hand, mana pool - .
  3. Tap Emry, Lurker of the Lock targeting Corridor Monitor.
  4. Cast Corridor Monitor and with the trigger, untap Emry, Lurker of the Loch, mana pool - .
  5. Cast Mox Opal.
  6. Go to step 1 and go insane.

It makes lots of mana. That's enough for me. You don't need Myr Retriever for this one. As long as you can get to cast the little untap creature, you're golden.

I figured these are worth including. These are KCI-enabled win-condition loops after you draw your deck or have a lot of mana.

The "I Forgot How This Loop Works" Loop

You can win with Memory Jar + Scroll Rack and either Voltaic Key or Manifold Key, in case somehow every outlet in your deck is exiled or something. Which I guess can happen. This one is a little tricky, but it does work with some finesse.

IN PLAY: Memory Jar + Scroll Rack + Voltaic Key/Manifold Key;Myr Retriever either in play, hand, or graveyard

REQUIREMENT:

  1. Activate Memory Jar by placing its ability on the stack.
  2. If Myr Retriever is in your graveyard, as part of the cost for activating the ability of Memory Jar, Memory Jar is sacrificed, putting a Scrap Trawler trigger on the stack on top of the Memory Jar draw ability; use this to target Myr Retriever.
  3. This part is tricky, because we don't want to exile Myr Retriever, so now we activate Scroll Rack to rack Myr Retriever (and the rest of our hand) onto our library after letting the Scrap Trawler ability resolve, but not the Memory Jar ability.
  4. Let the Memory Jar ability resolve, and you (and the table) draw 7 cards, one of which is Myr Retriever.
  5. Play out Myr Retriever, and now untap Scroll Rack with Voltaic Key/Manifold Key.
  6. With Krark-Clan Ironworks, eat Voltaic Key/Manifold Key.
  7. Eat Myr Retriever and return Voltaic Key/Manifold Key (CMC < 2 trigger) and Memory Jar (target ability).
  8. Play out Memory Jar and Voltaic Key/Manifold Key.
  9. Go to step 1, and loop through these steps.

You opponents will draw through their libraries and deck themselves, but Scroll Rack stops you from doing the same. Then you win, maybe.

This one has a little bit of strange sequencing based on how activating ability costs work, so we have to activate Scroll Rack in the middle, but it ends up being all good in the end, so hooray.

Chain Rule

Another completely and unreasonably inefficient way to win is using a planeswalker with a relevant uptick ability and The Chain Veil. This loop is basically identical to T H E D Y N A M O, except you use The Chain Veil in the middle and just kill the table.

IN PLAY: Myr Retriever + The Chain Veil + Planeswalker

REQUIREMENT: or mana rocks which net

This loop can be done without infinite mana if you have, for example, a 0-drop rock (I'll use Mox Opal) and Sol Ring in play/graveyard. Any rock combination which hits net works.

  1. Uptick your planeswalker.
  2. Tap Sol Ring and Mox Opal for mana and sacrifice them, mana pool - one of which is any color.
  3. Activate The Chain Veil and use the planeswalker's ability again, mana pool - .
  4. Eat The Chain Veil (no target needed now, but will target Myr Retriever Later), mana pool - .
  5. Eat Myr Retriever and return The Chain Veil (target) and Sol Ring (trigger), mana pool - .
  6. Cast The Chain Veil and Sol Ring, mana pool - .
  7. Activate Sol Ring and sacrifice it to return Mox Opal, mana pool - .
  8. Cast, tap, and sacrifice Mox Opal, mana pool - .
  9. Activate The Chain Vail and uptick your planeswalker again, mana pool - .
  10. Sacrifice The Chain Veil, return Myr Retriever, mana pool - .
  11. Cast Myr Retriever, go to step 5 and loop, mana pool - .

There are a few ways to make this work across 0-drop rocks and 1-drop rocks. The Chain Veil requires to cast and activate, and casting Myr Retriever requires , so total. This just means that you need to find net mana across the two rocks as sacrificing The Chain Veil or the Myr Retriever yield each. Sol Ring and Mox Opal are net total, so this loop works even if you need to start by casting Sol Ring off of what you have in play or if Myr Retriever starts in the graveyard. Many different rocks will make it work, this example is just to go through a loop with 2 common rocks.

If you have just loop the 2 cards together and like, maybe win. Or just Brainstorm your Jace, the Mind Sculptor 97 times.

This section will just briefly touch on looping single cards using the discussed combos to win.

Conjurer's Bauble

This card can be looped after you draw your library to repeatedly recast a single spell to kill the table. The benefit is that you can use a normal card you'd run in the deck which isn't actual garbage to win the game. But now you're playing Conjurer's Bauble. It works with loops that recur cards that cost , but not the mana cost abusing loops since this one you are just playing and activating normally. But when you get to the point where you can loop a single card, this is trivial.

Mishra's Bauble

This loops as a tag along with things that cost , but you can use it to draw your deck on the next upkeep. It's not all that great honestly, but you probably won't lose if you grip your whole deck, so whatever.

Pyrite Spellbomb

If you really want to have a trash party, play . Then this card works. Most common outlet by far.

Spine of Ish Sah

OG giant destroy everything outlet. It works, it's just a lot and if you are casting it normally you probably have laundry to do.

Codex Shredder

yeet that library

Lodestone Bauble

This one is sweet. It's a 0-drop that you can loop and make each opponent draw like a thousand million cards and they die. It's sick. Thanks to /u/divisor_ for the suggestion.

Aetherworks Marvel

If you perform any loop, you can cast your entire deck. Stupid, but cool.

Oko, Thief of Crowns

elk

Aetherflux Reservoir

It works with everything.

This is where I put really stupid loops that are all technically possible but no one in their right mind would actually play.

Ugin's Nexus

Yeah, you read that right. If you play enough garbage cards in your deck, you can actually loop this clunky piece of yikes. Here's how.

IN PLAY: Karn, the Great Creator + Ugin's Nexus + The Chain Veil + Myr Retriever

REQUIREMENT: Lack of self-worth

  1. Eat Ugin's Nexus with Krark-Clan Ironworks and exile it, uptick Karn, the Great Creator, and activate The Chain Veil.
  2. Perform a loop with The Chain Veil + Myr Retriever to repeatedly uptick Karn, the Great Creator.
  3. After an arbitrarily high number of upticks, downtick Karn, the Great Creator to return Ugin's Nexus.
  4. Cast Ugin's Nexus, and sacrifice to Krark-Clan Ironworks to add another turn.
  5. Repeat this loop with Karn, the Great Creator + Ugin's Nexus + The Chain Veil and take a lot of turns.

Just remember that when you pass the turn to yourself, Ugin's Nexus isn't in play.

Arcbound Reclaimer

If your preferred win-condition is using so much spice your opponents need to pour milk in their eyes, this is for you.

This loop is so weird it doesn't even need Myr Retriever or Scrap Trawler. So basically it's the best loop here.

IN PLAY: Arcbound Worker + Arcbound Reclaimer + Future Sight/Mystic Forge

REQUIREMENT: Optimism

  1. Sacrifice Arcbound Worker to Kark-Clain Ironworks and move the modular trigger counter to Arcbound Reclaimer, mana pool - .
  2. Remove a counter from Arcbound Reclaimer to target Arcbound Worker, placing it on top of your library.
  3. Cast Arcbound Worker from your library (thanks to Mystic Forge or Future Sight), mana pool - .
  4. Go to step 1 and repeat through these steps, netting mana.

This works with a lot of different cards that have modular. Urza, Lord High Artificer also nets mana off larger modular cards like Arcbound Ravager. Based on your c u s t o m c o m b o s you can net a lot of mana, get a really big dude, or win some other unreasonably spicy but absolutely wonderful way.

Thanks to /u/GnomeFighter for the loop!

I'll add more over time. Everyone is shipping out incomplete garbage anyways lately and gives us some time for sweet free D L C.

Which really, isn't that what new magic sets are?
