It's easy to look at Syrix, Carrier of the Flame, think "ah, Phoenix tribal!" and leave it at that. The thing is, I can't help but wonder if his fellow fried chickens would only hold him back. Nowadays, most phoenixes have a condition to return to play based on some specific strategy or the latest set mechanic, meaning if you put a whole bunch of them into one deck, you'll be pulled in all sorts of directions and unable to make particularly good use of any of them.

Now consider this - why does he need any other Phoenixes at all? Syrix allows a phoenix to throw a bundle of damage around when any creature leaves your graveyard - feathered or otherwise. And if he himself is a phoenix, wouldn't it be more efficient to just pump his power and have him able to hurl a whole bunch of damage?

Thus, thinking outside the box leaves us with a Syrix voltron deck - pump his power up and then have something, anything leave your graveyard on each turn (including your opponents'!) and he'll quickly blow them to bits. Getting stuff to leave the 'yard on your turn is easy, but instant speed ways to trigger Syrix on each opponent's turn is key. Tortured Existence is Easy Mode, letting you pay one mana to swap a critter out for one in your hand - that's a heck of a discount for a Soul's Fire each turn. Persistent Specimen and Reassembling Skeleton can be brought back at instant speed, doing the job all on their own, though Phyrexian Reclamation and Volrath's Stronghold can also bring back more threatening bodies.

Blackblade Reforged and Blade of the Bloodchief jack Syrix's power up to lethal levels while you're throwing all this damage around, though don't ignore that Loxodon Warhammer's Lifelink helps to keep you alive and Grafted Exoskeleton's Infect seriously speeds up the rate at which he can pick off your opponents. Ghost Lantern provides both an instant-speed trigger for Syrix as well as a way to pump him up with all the creatures you'll be throwing away. Of course, your opponents will be soon to follow!
