Palace Siege

Enchantment

As Palace Siege enters the battlefeild, choose Khans or Dragons.

  • Khans — At the beginning of your upkeep, return target creature card from your graveyard to your hand.
  • Dragons — At the beginning of your upkeep, each opponent loses 2 life and you gain 2 life.

Palace Siege- I recommend adding this enchantment to your deck.

@Basshunter: Thanks for the input. There are a few things I feel the need to justify keeping in though.

The primary reason I have Paragon of Open Graves and Hero's Blade is so I can easily buff up Sarevok, causing his ability to drain extra life when it triggers. Death-Priest of Myrkul is somewhat expensive, but when he's out, I just got to pay a mana at the end of each turn to ensure I maintain a consistent fuel supply for Cultist (and a lot of my token generation is zombies anyway so... bigger dead dudes.). Similar vein, Palace Siege allows me to sac something to Cultist then play it again on the same turn, which goes real good with Gray Merchant of Asphodel for life gain and Doomed Dissenter for a free Zombie token, if I just don't sac Gravecrawler to play it again cause it cheap.

Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon and Squelching Leeches are mostly there to be big beefy bois if I need them, but yeah, of the suggestions you've made, I'd probably swap them for Black Market Connections and Priest of Forgotten Gods to net me some more card draw. Ophiomancer, Grave Titan and Phyrexian Altar are also on my radar.

Not a fan of Skullclamp, at least in this deck. I'd need either altars or Yahenni, Undying Partisan out to actually get consistent value out of it, otherwise I'd need to pay for another sac outlet.

its a really nice deck idea, but in my opinion, you got

  1. too much stuff in your deck that doesnt fit to the theme like Squelching Leeches, Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon, Paragon of Open Graves, Infernal Scarring, Grasping Shadows  Flip, Hero's Blade and maybe some others..

  2. you are really high cmc for a sac-deck. maybe upgrade to a lower cmc and faster deck..i.e. change Diabolic Tutor with Diabolic Intent, Death-Priest of Myrkul, Stir the Sands or Palace Siege is expensive too - and they dont even fit very well to the theme. You can change your reanimation-spells to low cmc like Reanimate or Animate Dead aswell

  3. To get rid of the fuel-problem, get some cards like Black Market Connections (awesome here), Blight Mound, Ophiomancer, Grave Titan ...

  4. Upgrade sac-outlets: Phyrexian Altar, Priest of Forgotten Gods, Viscera Seer, Skullclamp

So all together you should fit the theme more, search for cheaper cmc cards that do the same and get some more token-stuff

Thank you for your suggestions!

I retained some contenders that are currently sitting in my maybeboard:
Aetherflux Reservoir ,Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose , Debtors' Knell , Palace Siege , Pyre of Heroes , Revival / Revenge , Astarion, the Decadent.

I kind of changed my mind as to the maintheme of the deck and will be moving a bit more towards a stax deck.

However, I will keep the subtheme of vampires and therefore lifegain so I will eventually work my way into incorporating those ! :)

I'll make a few suggestions here, trying to keep in mind your budget considerations.

Suggestions for reanimator:

Palace Siege - either lifegain or reanimator, depending on what you need when you play it.

Ravos, Soultender

Debtors' Knell - high mana value, but returns a creature from ANY graveyard to the battlefield directly.

Suggestions for lifegain:

Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose - Highly recommend, as he goes infinite with Exquisite Blood.

Marauding Blight-Priest - Like Vito, also goes infinite with Exquisite Blood.

Tymna the Weaver - Lifegain and card draw.

Ajani's Welcome - cheap, consistent lifegain for playing creatures.

Ivory Tower - cheap, consistent lifegain each turn for having cards in hand.

Also, random one that you may want to consider: Pyre of Heroes. It'll let you sacrifice one of your creatures to find another with mana value equal to the sacrificed creature's plus 1.

The one glaring omission I see is Tireless Provisioner. That said, I do think there are a couple areas this deck could improve within budget: manabase and long game.

I think a couple of your artifacts are slow or lower-impact; Horned Helm in particular seems like it is not doing enough. I would consider cutting this card and potentially Welcome to Sweettooth or Giant's Skewer for card that recur your resources, something like Palace Siege or Oversold Cemetery or The War in Heaven.

For manabase, in particular I am looking at the fact that you have 1) a ton of lands that enter the battlefield tapped all the time, and 2) only 4 other Forests for your Gingerbread Cabin. I would suggest cutting Cinder Barrens, Foul Orchard, Jund Panorama, Akoum Refuge, Gruul Guildgate, and Golgari Guildgate for Many Partings, Cinder Glade, Sheltered Thicket, Woodland Chasm, Smoldering Marsh, and Rockfall Vale. A lot of these dual lands are cheaper right now due to the Doctor Who commander deck release, so you can pick most of them up for <$1 each.

Best of luck to you!

I have many building thoughts about this.

38 lands is a minimum, these days.

Adding would give this deck some more decent tools, like Path to Exile, Swords to Plowshares, and Eerie Interlude (one of the best Commander cards, imo).

You are missing all of the excellent Artifacts that help you Ramp.

Sol Ring
Arcane Signet
Mind Stone (which you can sac in the late game)
Command Tower (see above)

I believe Bontu's Monument is too slow.

Lose some of the rats, replace some of the Artifacts, and put Palace Siege in.
