I already upvoted, but I would like to express a more thorough support of the second paragraph of the previous post.

The majority of MtG's player base are not game designers, don't know good game design in general, and are bad at knowing what game design is good for Magic in particular. The number of people making insane formats and wanting to implement asinine changes to the mana system to "fix" it are proof of just how horrible your average magic player is at game design.

You will still have to pay life or put the card back and are still able to pay the life if you so choose. Your reasoning is correct in that you are not paying life to activate the ability and so Angel of Jubilation will not stop anything.

It was (supposedly) to solve a problem that no one was complaining about and caused a problem that lots of people are complaining about. Turn around time on Secret Lairs was in the neighborhood of 6-10 weeks, with my longest wait being 14 weeks. People realized that they were collecting orders and then printing them, no one cared for the most part about the time it took. Having said that, apparently some of the commander decks took up to a year to arrive and that irritated people (rightfully). So Wizards announced that they were going to a limited print run model as the rule for the product line with some print to demand possible to lessen waiting times. But they assured people that "While popular Secret Lair drops may sell out fast, we now have four years of Secret Lair sales to base our print-run numbers on, and we're aiming to get as close to overall demand as possible". (source for rational).

The 2024 Equinox Super Drop started on April 8th and was supposed to last until April 28. I didn't know about it (I don't check the page that often) until April 12th by which time 3 out of 6 drops were sold out. That weekend I talked to a friend who had gone to watch the eclipse on the 8th because we were only about 2 hours out of the path of totality and he said by the time he returned home that evening the Rovina Cai drop had sold out. Less than 1 day into a 20 day long sale. By the 18th (halfway into the sale) the last of the Fallout themed drops had sold out and that left two drops with low value and art that isn't widely appealing for the remainder of the sale.

I have more issues with the Fallout Lairs too, but that is a completely other problem. It is obvious that they in reality have no idea how well drops are going to sell and they should go back to letting people order what they want and printing to demand. There would be challenges to it, but a better solution would be to do an initial run to get instant shipping then a print to demand to let people get drops for the entire length of the drop. Hell, they could offset logistics costs by charging a fee. Either for instant shipping from prestock, or a print to demand fee. I would pay an additional $5-10 on an order just to have the opportunity to buy the lairs that appeal to me without having to go into a FOMO craze and check the site repeatedly while at work. As is (assuming that every lair that is currently sold would still be sold, which speculators are a thing so it may not be true) they are losing out on $400-$500 per year on revenue from just me based on my previous buying habits.

sergiodelrio They are no longer print to demand. They have made them a limited print run and the nice ones sell out very quickly. For example the Ravina Kai one was sold out the day they released before many people got home from work. Then they were reposted on TCGplayer for triple the price. Luckily they have come down and are only 150% of the sales price. I'm hoping they come down a bit more so I can get one.

The creature will stick around. The important part is that it says "If that creature would die this turn". So the exile only happens if the creature would die. Indestructible creatures do not die from having lethal damage marked on them.

You can only cast spells and activate abilities when you have priority. Each time before a player receives priority state-based actions are checked and performed. If any are performed, they are checked and performed again. Only once no SBAs are performed (and no triggered abilities are waiting to be put on the stack) do players receive priority and are able to activate abilities.

TL:DR No, you can not activate abilities before SBAs are performed.

Balor isn't a modal spell. It is a creature spell, and the creature represented by the card has a modal ability. It has no interaction with Riku of Many Paths

Here is the WPN site explaining whats and hows of the event. I assumed that it was the link originally given, or else I would have provided it as soon as this thread opened. In the "how to run" section to stores it unfortunately says that won't work "Commanders that already have abilities like partner won’t let players have more than two commanders at this event, but we applaud their enthusiasm. Remember that the extra commander still counts toward the 100 cards in their deck."

Prismatic Omen is an enchantment and can't be played as a response unless there is something allowing a player to play it at instant speed. Since nothing allowing it to be cast at instant speed was mentioned I will assume that you meant "later plays" instead of "responds with".

"Priority" has a meaning within the rules. Nothing here is dealing with priority. I will assume that you are using the normal English meaning of the word as a synonym for precedence instead of the rules meaning.

Neither enchantment "overrides" the other nor makes a player "safe" from anything.

When continuous effects are interacting they are applied in a system of layers and then in timestamp order within a layer. Since both Blood Moon and Prismatic Omen are type changing effects, they are applied in the same layer. In your example the Blood Moon was played first and will have an earlier timestamp, so it is applied first making all non-basic lands into mountains. Then the Prismatic Omen will apply granting all of its controller's lands all basic land types. The player(s) who don't control the Prismatic Omen will have all of their non-basics still only be mountains.

If the enchantments had entered in the opposite order Prismatic Omen will give all of its controller's lands all basic land types. Then Blood Moon would make all non-basics into mountains, and the non basics controlled by Prismatic Omen's controller would lose all other land types.

There are 13 permanent spells in the entire deck with all of them being 0 or 1 MV ramp. "Forgot about Cody's first line of text" isn't how I would phrase it. "Wants to hit turn 2 Cody 69% of the time, more if you factor in mulls" is how I would phrase it.

Then yeah bro, don't be down on yourself about science. The refrigeration cycle is the practical application of some pretty neat science. Sensible heat and latent heat and all of that are concepts that most people never have to deal with and never learn. Again we are getting back to specialized knowledge and how IQ isn't everything. If you give Joe Blow off the street a refrigeration manifold, a jug of refrigerant, and a P/T chart and tell him to make the system work he is going to have no idea what to do. Because you have an understanding of how the system works and the relationship between pressure, temperature, and physical state you think it is as simple as "compressor go brrrr".

An important part of deckbuilding that I haven't seen you mention in either of these first two articles and that is especially important in this once since it is based from a combo is metainformation. This is not to say information about the meta that you will be playing the deck into (though that is important too), but information about the game in general.

One example would be existing archetypes or general categories of decks. With a mono-blue blink combo and wanting to add colors metainformation informs us that a established archetype is Bant Blink. It is tried and true and has a proven depth of field for support of blink. You subvert this by going Dimir, which I appreciate.

Another consideration is known synergies with cards you are already running.

By no means do you have to follow all metainformation. And you also don't need to worry about missing something and therefore stress about knowing all the info. But just being generally aware of what is possible and proven will allow you to make informed deckbuilding decisions.

I am enjoying your "Build a Deck with Me" thread series, but I would like to make a suggestion related to the series and don't think it is appropriate to put it in either thread. It would be helpful if you linked the decks that are under discussion. Since you aren't really asking for help with them and are more using them as case studies in deck building I don't think this would run afoul of the "NO DECKLISTS in this forum" rule. You could ask Rhadamanthus or Caerwyn since they are the mods who generally are the ones keeping posts in the correct forums if you want to be super careful.

Hey now, the refrigeration cycle is more advanced science than most people need to understand in their adult lives, so you are doing just fine in science. Then again I'm not super familiar with industrial ammonia refrigeration since I do mostly commercial HVAC-R. Maybe you don't have to understand the refrigeration cycle, IDK.

Not trying to hijack your thread, but you have complained in the past about your work situation and finding out you are in the same general field I am... you might want to get ahold of your UA Local and see about joining. MES (mechanical equipment service, it is what they call HVAC-R techs) is the fastest growing trade within the organization. Depending on how extensive your previous experience is you might be able to skip some/all of the apprenticeship.

It's not even "a bit of a dispute" IQ is irrelevant past about 13 or 14 once people start gaining specialized knowledge and reasoning skills because it can only measure general knowledge and reasoning. Also exactly what is tested is skewed heavily toward how middle to upper class white people in the early 20th century performed. So it isn't a good objective measure much like most standardized testing.

Having said all of that; I'll try to provide what IQ means for when it is a valid measure to use. IQ is your "mental age" divided by your chronological age and multiplied by 100. So an 8 year old who scores what would be expected of a 10 year old has an IQ of 125 and if they score what would be expected of a 6 year old it would be 75. 140 is considered "genius" and 70 is usually where they start testing for developmental disabilities. (Though some "disabilities" such as ASD manifest with increased IQ). From a random website I found explaining IQ tests. "IQ tests are administered by licensed psychologists. There are different kinds of intelligence tests, but many involve a series of subtests that are designed to measure mathematical abilities, language skills, memory, reasoning skills, and information-processing speed."

For a more practical reference, when I was in school I was given multiple IQ tests and scored between 144 and 148. All standardized testing I have taken I have scored in the 99th percentile, so I was "smarter" than 99% of people if you want to look at it that way. At 152 I'd assume that your GF is in the top 99.5%. Again, though, this sort of testing has limited usefulness.

Use Mom's ring if it is cool with Dad. Good luck in all your endeavors.

Two damage.

113.7a Once activated or triggered, an ability exists on the stack independently of its source. Destruction or removal of the source after that time won’t affect the ability. Note that some abilities cause a source to do something (for example, “Prodigal Pyromancer deals 1 damage to any target”) rather than the ability doing anything directly. In these cases, any activated or triggered ability that references information about the source for use while announcing an activated ability or putting a triggered ability on the stack checks that information when the ability is put onto the stack. Otherwise, it will check that information when it resolves. In both instances, if the source is no longer in the zone it’s expected to be in at that time, its last known information is used. The source can still perform the action even though it no longer exists.

First a little information about the site. The Q&A is for rules questions. It's not a big deal and I'm sure a mod will be by at some point to move this thread.

I'm assuming that you mean Modern Horizons 3 and English isn't your first language and the name of the set didn't translate well. The set is scheduled to release June 14 with prerelease events starting June 7 and the official spoilers beginning May 21. The full set contents will slowly be previewed between May 21 and June 7, though I'd guess that previews would be done by June 1, but that last date is supposition.
