I started playing at home Christmas of 2013 when I bought my son some cards to try out. After playing casually at home between then and summer 2014 we jumped in with both feet and went to Portland Grand Prix last summer and played a few hours in a side-event (decided the main event was too much for us with a 9-year-old kid on the team). I made my first Standard Constructed deck fall of 2014 and am just getting into that and trying to find more people to play with. I've now been to my local game shop a few times and have done OK. I'm starting to read more about competitive decks and am interested, given the limitations of my budget and how much free time I have, how well I can do just playing locally occasionally. If I could have one undefeated day at the local game shop that'd be immensely satisfying, and I've been working really hard on my Dragon You Down to Hell deck, as I love dragons and am excited to see so many in the meta-game right now. I won't be this excited again until vampires and/or angels are around again in a big way.

Having just read an article about player archetypes, I'm definitely a Johnny/Timmy with just a dash of Spike. I wouldn't really be satisfied at ALL taking a decklist from the internet and winning a bunch with it. I'd rather just do so-so with my own deck than win a bunch with someone else's, but winning a bunch with my own would be SOOOOoooo good.
