mtg, mtg cards, magic the gathering, gaming, geeks
My favorite thing about mtg is deckbuilding. But, I don't like just making extremely over powered decks that everyone uses. I find it more fun to try to make decks around awful cards :P. I have decks around Gloom Surgeon Omnisience and the like. I also enjoy combining strategies. I like to see what it would be like to combine delver and wolf run ramp or something like that. That's all I have to say, happy deckbuilding!
Which means, I'm 100% positive that I'm a johnny!!

I was mostly thinking about something else, though would you mind if I bounced ideas off of you for the weekly drawing? That would certainly help me out a lot, and I know my friends would appreciate taking a break from my incessant cascade of ideas for custom PW. :P That would be pretty cool.
Yes, I do you MSE. Step by step instructions, are you ready?
Google images. Search for a simple shape/pattern/design you want to use as the set symbol. Save it to your "pictures" folder, or somewhere you can find it easily.
Open MSE.
On the left side of the window is the card mock-up. Directly ABOVE it are a few small tabs. From left to right they are "cards" "style" and "set info". Click on the tab labeled "set info."
There are now two large headings. Under the heading "Set Information", there are smaller tabs with other options. "title" "description" "artist" "copyright" and finally "Symbol". click anywhere in the large box next to symbol, and a new window will open.
In the new window, click the "File" button in the top left corner, then "Open". This should take you to your general computer folders. Search around for the place where you saved your Set Symbol. Once there, there is a drop-down menu labeled "Symbol Files." Click on the drop-down menu, and select "Images/MSE1 symbol files." You should now see your previously saved image.
Select the image file you saved to use as your set symbol. Once selected, it should take you back to the grid screen. From here you can goof around with the settings, or alter the design in any way you like.
Once you are finished altering your symbol however you like, click on the giant check mark labeled "Store", then close the window. You are now back in the main section of MSE.
Final step, click the tab near the top labeled "cards", and you are back to customizing! :D Enjoy your new, shiny, and totally custom Set Symbol! I hope you have enjoyed using this Xindlepete Walkthrough, and happy customizing! XD
Hey, could you check out a new deck I just came up with? I just opened a box with some friends (list of pulls is on my profile if interested). I've made the deck private for now (shared it with you), and would appreciate any feedback. It revolves around Bronzebeak Moa and Blaze Commando /Assemble the Legion .
Wanted to get the concept up now before I forgot about it, and will probably not be back on this until tomorrow.
Thanks!
Nevermind, I found you. :) I do like Skirge the Red Death. VERY cool idea. Wouldn't change a thing.
Ecaj is neat, though I would change the -1 to a -2, and you need to add a "You may choose new targets for the copy" clause to the emblem effect, otherwise you are forced to double-cast on the same target. It cuts back on the utility that comes with copying spells a lot. But other than that, neat. I like everything but the name. (Ecaj ... jacE. Really, a little more effort than that! :P)
Glados the deer speaker is pretty cool, though I think you should change the -3 to "put two 2/2 deer tokens with vigilance into play." And I like the ultimate, but "reach" doesn't really help you with a win-con in any way. I would think make it similar to Ezuri, Renegade Leader : You get an emblem with "Deer creatures you control get +3/+3 and trample." Those two changes net you a possibility for 5/5 vigilance trample deer tokens. That would be a formidable force of nature indeed! :D
Overall, I enjoy your ideas. Would you be interested in a collaboration?
Or perhaps make the -3 put out a 5/5 token, since the token would have summoning sickness, and it wouldn't require you to keep Ria on the field. Or a 4/4 lifelink token, I think would be better. :)
Nice! That's actually very clever. I particularly like the 0 ability, since it can help you ramp up a bit, but only if you are playing around her. And it prevents you from casting her for "free" on turn one. Nicely done. :)
However, you do need to change the wording on the +1 to "Reveal the top three cards of your library." Since "look" doesn't actually require you to reveal anything. That's more about matching up the terminology. And I think you should make the -3 turn her into a 4/4, because a 5/5 on turn 3 is a bit much. And some kind of "protection" perhaps, like on Gideon, Champion of Justice ? Help keep her alive a bit better.
And is your photobucket under "buffy" also?
For sure, hit me up with link to some of your customs. :) If you wanted, we could exchange emails and ideas on making a 1cmc PW. I've been trying to think of one myself, but I find it a bit challenging to balance. 2cmc is significantly easier.
Contest winners are announced every monday night. I did do two drawings one week, but was asked to cut back on posting because the card building forums were full up of just my contest. :P So now I post the contest Monday announcing the new winner, and repost it on Wednesday and Friday to draw as many people as possible. (Sorry you didn't win this week, but maybe next time! :D)
You make PW mock-ups too? Do you have a photobucket or imgur account where I can see some of your work? My photobucket link is on the contest pages. :)
I'm interested to see how others go about creating custom PW.
Hey man. Mostly just "google images" really. Part of the reason I ask for gender, colors and decks to base the 'walker on is it makes it easier to come up with art that fits the character. And I try to make abilities that fit in the center of a venn diagram between "PW Flavor" and "Submitted deck playability". I also try to steer away from making a PW too specific to a submitted deck, and think how it would be useful to different deck types in the same color.
After I come up with the abilities for them, it's easy to pick out what kind of art I'm looking for. That's why I have one drawing per week, because I put a lot of work into each one. :)
hey. now that you've looked through the DGM cards, do you mind looking at the deck i mentioned earlier? A... Different... Grixis Control (Handless). its getting pretty popular. any bright ideas for a new name? i feel like mine doesn't sound very... attractive? lol. thanks!
Will check it out in a bit (I think I'll remember... )!
Whoa, Ascended Lawmage is SWEET for this deck. Good job in finding it a home :P. I would consider removing Martial Law in favor for more Detention Sphere . But other then that, this deck looks really solid and awesome. +1.
This is a very interesting idea! You obviously know that your limiting yourself by not opening yourself up to white so you can play Champion of the Parish , but mono-red seems really interesting. It seems to me that you need a late bomb, perhaps Thundermaw Hellkite ? I will comment more later, as I have to go right now :P.
Yeah, well Gruul Charm is even pretty bad for dealing damage to trigger Blaze Commando . So I would say remove it for Farseek or something that deals damage better then it does (which isn't hard),
Worked like a charm, thanks! The symbol is a long story xP. I have decided to make a planeswalker for each guild, and I just added the izzet, rakdos and selesnya ones to photobucket. Tell me what you think when you get a chance, and feel free to ask for any suggestions/help on any of your mockups or decks!
Whoa, this actually looks pretty sweet. The only thing I can think to suggest right now is to drop the Gruul Charm s and put in something like Arbor Elf , Avacyn's Pilgrim or Farseek . I will comment more tomorrow as I have to go! :P.
No I don't care at all! Throw as many ideas at me as you wish!
What did you have in mind then? :P.
Ok, I'll work on that Xindlepete tutorial ;P.
Xindlepete says...
Hey buffy. Just thought I'd let you know: I'm going to start commenting on your PW Mock-ups over on photobucket. It will help clear up some clutter/space on our walls for other things, and that way we can keep our ideas process a little more hush-hush. If too many people see what/how we come up with, they won't need us to make stuff for them anymore! :P
If you haven't seen on photobucket already, I have a folder for Custom Planeswalker Ideas where I've been trying to make a PW for each creature type. I have most of them finished and posted, though I'm currently working on a Minotaur walker in Gruul colors, and a Merfolk walker in U/B, to fit better with the Lorwyn block control merfolk. Why don't you send me an email with some ideas, and we can discuss it at length there.
And if you haven't already checked out my newest decks, here are the links:
I Bant Believe It's Not Butter! is a Standard Bant Enchantments deck.
The Firebrand's Family Reunion is a Standard RDW/Aggro deck with a goofball story behind it.
And The Big Gruulbowski is a Gruul Aggro deck based around Gruul War Chant and similar effects to make blocking large creatures difficult, while utilizing the Renegade Krasis /Ivy Lane Denizen combo. :) It's fun on a bun! :D
+1's and comments are always welcome, and again, hit me up in an email with some ideas for those 'walkers I mentioned. :) Looking forward to working with you.
