Smartfilter Anomaly

TappedOut forum

Posted on Nov. 18, 2014, 7:38 a.m. by Jay

So, as a highschool-aged kid I spend most of my Tappedout time browsing during class on my school-issued laptop. For some reason the site isn't blocked by the smartfilter despite the fact that everything that isn't like a damn National Geographic article is. Recently, however, part of the site became blocked. I can browse the forums, user pages, and so forth, but if I try and go to the Deck Builder section I get cut off. I can still build decks if I go through my homepage, however I can't browse the deckcycle feed.

Any idea why this might happen? Are there solutions? If necessary I can just bypass the filter anywway, but I try to save rulebreaking as a last resort.

Thanks yo.

Don't be on websites during class. Researchs have shown, that you then only learn about 25%, of what you would usually learn.....

Does the filter give a reason as to why it's blocking the page? Some give a few word description.

pretty strange. maybe it just did text analysis and decided it was a gaming page.

can't you just use browser proxies to get around that

Maybe if you paid attention in school you would be able to figure it out.

I built my own browser proxy to get around this issue. Though I don't recommend that route, because if you give the capacity to get around the firewall to some people in the school, bad things can happen... Not saying that you'll be blamed for the porn showing up on the projector in a class that you weren't even in, as I was, but hey, things can get out of hand.

For your own personal use, I recommend either getting yourself to the point amongst the faculty that they will just hand you their firewall password, or just waiting until you get home to tap out.

I'm actually an honor student with about 95th percentile scores, but thanks for assuming the worst :)

YeaGo and Karp, it says gaming. Odd that it comes up as such for only that page, but whatever. I'll just bypass it.
