my first pre-release

Limited forum

Hi. So i'm not a new player. I've been playing a few years but never attended a store event. I'm planning on attending the domanaria pre release. Do you have any suggestions on what I should do to prepare? I understand deck building and such but I just want advice on other things such as what to bring and how best to study the set. Just tell me how you get ready for pre-releases and things you wish you had known for first time

It depends on how much you want to be prepared. I usually bring a deckbox, sleeves, dice if there's a counters theme in the set and pencil and paper.

If you want to be more prepared, I suggest bringing pre-sleeved basic lands (about 20 of each colour) as it will save you a lot of time when making your deck.

To know the set I check out the cards on mythicspoiler.com ; if you want to practice making a sealed deck you can do so on draftsim.com

Don't forget to eat/drink during the event as it will last a couple of hours and can be quite exhausting.

Have fun!

I recommend following along with spoiler season so you get to know all the cards pretty well, read the articles wotc posts daily (Monday through Friday) if it pertains to the set in someway. Their articles will tak about the cards, mechanics, and draft archetypes. Watch the dominaria spotlight on the mechanics (kicker, historic, and sagas). The week after spoilers finish (week of prerelease) read articles, listen/watch videos and podcast on limited play. I would definitely read LSV limited articles. He goes through every card in the set and gives it a 0-5 ranking on how good it is. Theyre very informative and help out a lot.

For the actual tournament bring about 50 sleeves. Your deck needs to be 40 cards minimum (and its best to stay near 40) and it gives you some extra in case you pull a money card that your sealed pool doesnt support and in case any of your other sleeves break. Bring pen and paper to keep track of life totals if you dont have spin down dice and also bring regular dice if you have them for planeswalkers or other kinds of counters. When it comes to building your deck read the little paper that comes in ge kit. Its helpful for new players since it gives a breakdown on how your deck should be split between creatures, spells, and lands and also your mana curve. Its a good guide for those new to limited. Also dont focus too hard on what rares and mythics you get at first. Its best to see what your best colors are (they have the most playables)(playables are good creatures, removal spells, and other cards that will help you win the game.) the reason you do this is you may really want to play your teferi planeswalker (white and blue) but you dont have enough playable blue and white cards in your limited pool to make a deck its better to not force that and play a deck with playable cards
