New to commander deck building. How have I gone upgrading from a pre con for the first time?

I have never really been good at singleton deck construction, usually in my time in MTG and other card games in high school I go straight to playsets of a dozen cards as a starting point. However I felt pretty comfortable using the 2014 pre constructed decks to build off because the mono colour nature helped me see clear/easy upgrade paths.
I went with (probably) the easiest upgrade path for Guided by Nature, mostly because Origins just got me into elf tribal stuff and the deck was already half way there. I don't really have a playgroup atm to play with, and my girlfriend is still tinkering with her deck so I have no meta to really judge it against. So I figured why not have people on the internet give me anonymous feedback.
